Akkaba: Ra Hoor Khuit

The little girl from Siberia hates the desert. She is fair and burns easily, and she is used more to the frost than the shifting sands. Perhaps more than her physical discomfort, there is the fact that she is a lunar creature if ever there was one, and Egypt is home to the sun. Fitting, then, that they should be searching for signs of Mike here in this ancient place, as Illyana has often considered him, with his penchant for fire and active role, to be solar in nature.

"The Crowned and Conquering Child," Illyana mutters aloud as she sits at the window of the tiny hotel room she and the Pixie are sharing. It is past midnight, and the Pixie is tangled up in a light sheet, dreaming. Illyana smiles bitterly and flicks cigarette ash into the night air.

There are indeed mutants flocking to Akkaba. Some of them do not seem to understand why they have been drawn there, they merely heed an inaudible call. Illyana sees the temples of the past and thinks of the slaves who must have built them.

There are places in the Valley of Kings that ache like rotten teeth. It are these places the girls are tracking; like a huge game of connect-the-dots, they hope to see the big picture before it is too late. Before either the serpent rises and devours the sun, or the sun itself descends to scorch the earth.

Now let it be first understood that I am a god of War and of Vengeance.
