Plotting is BAD... yet fun!

Face was tending bar tonight... but being a tuesday after a holiday, there really wasn't that much action as of yet. So instead he's leaning against the bar and scribbling things on a napkin ( Read more... )

Neither the killing, the ranting nor the later talking had eased the lingering ache she realized she'd been nursing for too long, or calmed the burning fury and confusion at the situation she'd found herself in. Sam's absence wasn't helping, nor the fact that Witch was now roused and Daemon annoyed. She hoped a drink would help, and maybe studying this world a bit without the influence of the Realm folk.

She let her hair fall forward, covering the tips of her ears as best she could. The bar wasn't in Kaeleer, though she'd heard Daemon speak of it. But she wasn't prepared to draw stares and have people pointing at her ears if she could avoid it.

She slipped through the surprisingly uncrowded as unobtrusively as possible, making her way to the bar.

She gave the bartender a tight, tired smile.

"Brandy, please. The best you have."

"Would I serve anything beyond that to someone as beautiful as you?" Face smiled, pulling down the brandy and pouring a glass for her.

"You look a bit tired. Do you want something to go with this, maybe a perk up?"

She smiled in acknowledgment of the compliment, raising her glass briefly in thanks.

"A perk up?" She didn't know the term, a bit of confusion in her eyes.

"Something with ginsing of caffine in it. WIll wake upi up, give you a bit of energy."

He smiled and reached behind him for the bottle of Everglo and poured her half a shot. "Try this and see if you like it."

She looked at it a bit dubiously, probing it gently to test for poisons, almost by habit. Finding nothing that seemed sinister she took a sip. It definitely had a kick.

She smiled at him. "A perk up. I like it. What sort of liquor is it? I've never seen anything like it."

*g* naughty girl posting from work.... *goes back to legal research like a good girl...* ;-)

Julien was about ready to start drinking, himself. Or maybe just to outlaw any future relationships in the family. It could happen, couldn't it?

He was tired. He was tired of soothing feathers, fretting over sisters, wandering about generally playing the happy go lucky guy with all the right answers. Just plain tired.

Surreal looked even tired-er, though.

"Hey, pony. What's kicking?"

That little icing things over trick of Daemon's would be handy right about now, but the look Surreal gave him was more heated, flash of anger again through the exhaustion, lips curled in a snarl.

"Clearly not your coward of a brother." She downed the green liquid in one gulp. "Are you the family emmissary then, sent to pacify me with platitudes about just how much I mean to all of you and how you do respect me and tell me oh-so-nicely that I'm overreacting to everything?"

"Actually I was going to see how you were doing. And, since you seem to be in a bar, maybe get a little drunk."

He scanned the bar for likely-looking alcohol before glancing at her.

"Not that I disagree, but why a coward?"

"I've got nothing little planned, sugar. That should tell you just how I am."

She really hoped the very nice bartender poured more alcohol quickly.

Bitter smile. "Let's see...two days now? Three? I've talked to Luella. Willow. Fred. Tad'c. Daemon. Hell, even Jaenelle, and now you. But not one little sign of the man who supposedly is crazy in love with me."

"Mm. I've got a wife and kids to go home to, otherwise I'd be right there with you." He flashed a rueful smile.

"He's probably locked up again. She gets pissed off at him and locks him up when he tears up the Realm bad enough that she can't work."

"Well, aren't you the lucky one? I, on the other hand, have a wolf to go home to who will fret and fuss, but's been doing that for two days anyway, so really where's the differenc?"

She stares at him, lips curling slightly back. "And just what has he got to go around tearing things up about? He's not the injured party here. All he had to do was apologize and talk to me like a civilized person. And don't pull the 'that's not who he is' line, because he said he wanted to try and do this right. I'm not even seeing a smidgen of trying." She took a breath, only because she hadn't in a while. "He isn't even allowed to speak to me? Who the fuck do you all think you are?"

Julien held up a hand, though he didn't shrink back or look more than worried, and still tired.

"That's not my decision. I just ... try to get by."

"Right." She went back to the brandy snifter, sipping at it. "I'm tired of feeling like I'm wrong for how I feel. I'm not wrong. I'm not just going to roll over and play the good girl for you all this time."

She gave him a bitter smile. "You still want to say I belong, then you all deal with that."

"What happened?"

"Most recently? He told me I wasn't capable of doing my job." Her smile was bitter. "But that's just...it's all part of this pattern of superiority...of culture, of ideas, of the thought on what is the right way to do things. You all keep pushing at me with your ways and your customs, nevermind that some of them are in direct conflict...and Protocol is not silly."

Julien frowned a little. "Okay, this is going to sound dumb... especially if you've already explained it to me. What's Protocol?"
