He was seated on the floor, carpet under him and fire roaring before him, when it entered his room. It filled the air he breathed, and left his body as he relaxed. His gloved hands gripped his knees as he took another breath. The scent made swirls behind his closed eyelids, and he smiled when he could feel the comforting aroma surrounding him. He could almost feel the leaves tickling his skin as the stems swayed in the breezy air, their unique scent a powerful force in any field, any kitchen, any home. When he opened his eyes, the small boy could feel something else developing underneath the smell that graced his nose.

It was strong and intoxicating, a mixture of love and tranquility, of joy and pleasure, and he absolutely enjoyed it. Uncrossing his legs the young viewer poured a pitcher of water onto the fire he had finally gotten to light and them immediately ran from the room, following the scent, following the waves of all those hearts he could feel beating against his fur and flesh.

He ran with all the speed he could, trying to be as polite as all possible when he passed by women and men alike. He could hear the laughter before he even reached the right hallway. Whether that laughter was really flowing in and out of his ears or just their feelings spiking his chest he couldn’t tell. He still didn’t quite know the difference, but he was trying.

When he opened the big old oak door, Kalm peeked a quick look underneath of a sweet smelling tree off in the corner of the room, lights glistening in the mellow light of the evening and round bright balls dangling on the limbs it offered.

He was more than happy to give the two princesses, in their festive gowns, hugs, and accepted the hot chocolaty drink from Glitch. He sat beside his closest friend, smiling up at him while he let his feet wiggle around, nearly hitting the table’s legs as they passed it by.

The scent was stronger, and hit him hard. Yet he savored it up as soft music started playing, his friends dancing and twirling, laughing and smiling. Even the stern Mr. Cain seemed to be in the moment, his feet tapping and hat raised just so. Kalm shut his eyes and took in a deep breath, the scent of the holiday overcoming him yet again.

Mistletoe hung from above as bells rang, the fire going fast and freely as pine bristles covered the floor in the coming darkness. His mind went numb, blank. He smiled into his joy as he opened up his eyes, the sparkling of peppermint flames shining in them as red and white wax drifted down in perfect harmony.

Through the garland and ribbons, deep red and greens mixed with the faintest of sparkling gold, he sat in silent bliss, eating up the feelings and the scents, the emotions and the colors. It was like they all blended together for this, the most brilliant night.
