What is the most important value you can pass on to your child?

"Love" would be my first choice, but I don't think that love is a value. Love just is. And you can't teach it.

What I did want to teach my child: the value of freedom. I don't mean just one's own freedom. It's not an absolute thing. The Shadows probably think they're exerting their own freedom when killing or enslaving others, and the Vorlons aren't much different. Respecting the freedom of others should go along with holding on to your own. And never take it for granted, not your freedom, nor that others are free. I did, during my childhood, before my telepathy broke through. My parents were good people, but I'm pretty sure they never wasted one thought on the injustice of the laws for telepaths before their daughter became one.

So that was what I wanted to pass on to my child. The freedom to make a choice, and the awareness of how precious that freedom is.

She's gone now, but somehow I still hope that if I get whole again, there will be a brother or sister for her. Somehow, someday.
