"Honestly? A lot better if you would have trusted me with it, instead of Irene. You had someone claiming I was their mother and it didn't behoove you to let me know? Jesus, Nate! You know, there are things you don't know about me to this day. What if I'd had a kid and just never mentioned it? Gave the kid up for adoption when she was born?" She hadn't. And she knew she was overreacting. It didn't stop her from pushing the issue.

"What if she IS Logan's? Are you going to hate her like you hate him? And if she's yours? Are you going to turn a blind eye to anything she does because of it? Don't you get it, Nate? You don't know her. I don't know her. This... this is not my child. And she isn't yours, either,"

She knew she'd pushed too far. Said one too many things. The idea that she'd indirectly thrown Tolliver into this... it was downright sickening. But she was angry and hurt and frustrated beyond belief. She wondered for a moment if this was how the kid reacted to stress. Maybe she took it out on people she loved, too. She wondered if maybe the kid said too many hurtful things to people and pushed them away.

But she couldn't take it back now. It was out there, in the open. She averted her eyes from him back to the projection. Indigo eyes that narrowed as she realized the girl was gone. Where in the hell... Her eyes lifted and tumultuous violet clashed with icy, steel blue.

"I..." Come on, Dom. You did this. You fix it.

But she didn't know how. All she knew was that this girl was looking at her as if Domino had taken everything she had and smashed it into little pieces.

Nathan turned, at the same time Domino did, to see Beatrice.

Like Domino, he had no idea how much the girl had heard.

There were a lot of things that Dom had said that he wanted to reply to -- damn, he really missed that psi-link at times like this. It was not fair of her to allude to what had happened to his son Tyler (what Tyler had done, how Nate hadn't stopped it). Beatrice seemed like a sheltered little teenager; even considering her powers, she wasn't a major immediate threat to go to the dark side. The other statements were irrational but not entirely unjustified -- there were parts of Domino's past that he didn't know much about. And maybe he should have told her first, instead of defaulting to Irene's coolheadedness.

But no. Dom's reaction was just confirming that Nate's original instinct had been right. If anything, he wished he could have delayed the reunion longer.

"Domino --" He coughed. "This is Beatrice."

"...Don't you get it, Nate? You don't know her. I don't know her. This... this is not my child. And she isn't yours, either"

She hadn't heard what had prefaced it, but she was pretty sure she didn't need to, either. At first, she'd just been happy to hear her voice. Her mom's voice. Irene had only left the room for a second, and she had taken off down the hallway, somehow simply knowing where to go. And now she stood here in the doorway, staring at a woman who sounded like she hated the idea of her mere existence. Who didn't love her. Didn't KNOW her.

"I..." She forced the nausea and tears down with a big breath, doing her best to stay as composed as possible. She had to look away from Domino in order to do it, but once she got her vocal ability back, she looked directly at Nate, "I wanna go. Sh.. she's right. I mean, you don't know me. You guys didn't raise me and I don't belong here. So don't be mad at her, ok? I understand. I do," The last bit came out as more of a whisper, because the tears she'd just defeated came back twice as hard.

The fact was she didn't understand. This was supposed to be different. Her mom was supposed to be happy to see her, or at least not completely hate her. SHE was supposed to be the understanding one, not Cable. And then they were supposed to go find Logan, and things would be ok.

Things were not OK.

"Beatrice," Nate said, soothingly, stepping toward her. "Your -- Domino is just upset. She doesn't mean that." He gave Domino a warning look. "You don't mean that. Now, look here, if you two need room to talk --" He kept his gaze on Domino, and wished for the psi-bond again. The best he could do was try to tell her with his eyes, You only have one chance to do this right, Domino.

There were other things between the two of them, but those could wait. The girl was what mattered now.

The hell I don't... She thought angrily, but for the sake of the girl she didn't say it out loud. Of course, if she had Nate's abilities, she probably heard it anyway... Oh just great...

She looked at Nate, amazingly glad for the first time in a long while that they didn't have the psi-link. Her irrationality would probably have bled down the link and then this whole situation would have been a hell of a lot worse. As it was, the look on his face was more than enough to communicate to her that she'd better fix this.

"Fine," It didn't sound convincing at all, but somehow she figured Nate would probably take the answer and run with it.

Bea's eyes narrowed at this woman; who was very obviously NOT her mother; and looked at Nathan.

"I'll talk to her. But I am not promising anything. And once we're done, I want to go to New York. Is... is there a way I can do that without stowing away like I was planning? 'Cause, no offense, but that's like, super easy here. You might wanna check on that,"

Nate winced. "Good to know," he said. "I'll look into that, and meanwhile, you two --" He gave Domino a meaningful look. "After that, I'm sure we can work out wherever you want to go and whoever you want to sea. All right?"

A huge part of her wished she'd just turned around and left, instead of waiting to let them see her. The other part of her; the rapidly dwindling part; hoped that maybe there was something of the mom she knew in there. She nodded in response to Nate.

"Thanks. For you know, listening. And um... yeah," She really didn't know what to say. She could feel Domino's eyes upon her and it was completely different.

As soon as Nate left the room, she stepped in. They eyed each other and Bea chewed her lower lip in though for a moment before she realized that she was going to have to break the silence.

"So... hi. I'm Beatrice..."
