This last half of the week is devoted to the art of singing for me. Tomorrow morning, I am giving a small lecture to my SLP colleagues about professional voice users. My voice teacher is coming to this (no pressure)! Friday is NATS and I am really hoping I don't suck it up. Queen of the Night sounds fucking scary in my voice, but those high Fs are so frightening for me! I'm always afraid they won't be there or they won't sound good. Then there are the fucking triplets later that I can never seem to get through in one breath. I am getting closer lately, but it's still the bitch of bitches. Then there is my oratorio piece, which I never seem to have quite enough flexibility on. And then there's the whole matter of my weird tongue tension that pervades all of my pieces... Hopefully I can still have fun, singing in the Great Hall and all!!
Anyway, I really miss being able to really devote myself to singing and being able to not just "pretend" I am one a couple of hours a week. I meant to audition for some YAPs or something this fall, and again it fell by the wayside. I was offered a chorus position in Carmen in the Quad Cities, but for one, the show is the first week of next semester, and for two, they offered me mezzo. Also, the day they pass out music is one of the days I will be in Florida. I wrote Dr. Hand, but she hasn't replied at this point. I was hoping maybe I would get to do some more in Cedar Rapids, but I haven't heard anything.
Anyway, other than that, things are much the same. Thank GOD that the ASHA convention is coming up and is in FL!!! I have one hour of work that apparently no one can cover though, so I hope I don't get in huge trouble. Frankly, I need to get a different job that is more flexible on hours or something. School comes first, and I do not need to be made to feel bad about that choice.
I have a certain friend who I wish would talk to me or mail my books back to me at least.
Jeff and I are about the same.
I need to get out of this town. I don't feel like I have as many friends here anymore and will soon have even less here, due to internships and student teachings. Speaking of internships, it looks like I will be doing my first internship next fall at ENT Clinic of Iowa in Des Moines. I am very excited about this! I still need to get a second one lined up.
I need to get my butt in gear in general. I still have one paper from last semester to finish writing and another form to make for my research. I have no idea what I'm doing when I get to ASHA, need to figure that out!
So... I'm going to do that now!
