And though JRo and I had our ballots mailed to us weeks ago, I wanted to deliver them in person and truly feel part of the process on the day.
I called Leila and asked her if she'd like to make the stroll with me to the community center, our polling place. It's just two blocks away. She accepted with alacrity, dying for a distraction to keep her away from the news and her anxieties about the election results.
She took a pic for me after I made my delivery:
And then we spent several hours strolling back to the house, playing with the dogs, lunch on the patio, talking books and the new iPhone she wants and holiday projects and cooking. I sent her home about 3pm with some foods I'd made and frozen --lentil stew, apple pie filling, par-cooked red potatoes that I'd peeled and cubed and frozen in gallon bags (Sis brought us 10 lbs of them from the food bank delivery to the school last week).
At 5pm, I turned on election coverage, JRo and I got adult beverages going and dove into the Chinese food she'd brought home from our favorite place near her office. We finally went to bed about 11:30 before the Evil Orange One came out to blather.
Spending today on tenterhooks and still glued to the results counts and praying as hard as we can!
