Weekend was excellent - a good balance of laying in bed being lazy and playing around outdoors. What a gorgeous weekend! I am feeling quite fortunate to have had such excellent weather the last few weeks - in Albany, Chicago, and back here in Seattle.
Saturday I slept in and read in bed most of the morning. Met up with Bob and Jason at Linda's for brunch & bloodies on the back patio. Good food as always and their bloodies are hands-down the best I've had.
After brunch, we took the bus down to Georgetown to check out the
Georgetown Music Fest. We weren't sure what to expect, but it was a blocked-off street by Airport Way, where All City Coffee and Georgetown Records/Fantagraphics are located. It was really cool! Mostly adults, not too crowded or too hipster. People seemed to be in a relaxed mood, there to have fun, drink beers and listen to music. The first two bands we saw I had never heard of -
Boat and
Key Note Speaker. Both of them did a decent job. I wasn't blown away, but I would check either of them out again if they were opening for a band I liked. After a couple of hours drinking beer in the hot sun, we walked down the street to cool off and grab some snax at
Stellar Pizza, and met up with our friend Chris.
After dinner we went back to drink more beers and catch the bands we were there to see: The Trucks, Voyager One, and Earlimart. After working through some sound issues,
The Trucks did their Peaches meets Ladytron meets The Waitresses thang and put on an enjoyable set. Highlight for me was definitely their hit song "Titties."
Voyager One came on next, right at sunset. Their electronic/shoegazer sound was perfect for that time of day and my frame of mind. Lush and dreamy arrangements, although the vocalist was kinda weak and off key - sounds much better on their records. I focused on the music instead. By now it was dusk and
Earlimart took the stage. They played an excellent set of melancholy pop, with several songs off 2004's Treble and Tremble, as well as a bunch of new songs. They also had a string quartet with them, which sounded great at times, but they were really under utilized. Bob said it was their first time playing with them.
After the festival, we drove over to West Seattle so Chris could drop the boys off. Hit Alki and walked on the beach, and then stopped by Coyote for mojitos and snax. Came home and went to bed.
Sunday was a much more relaxing affair. Another beautiful sunny day, Wandered down to the
Olympic Sculpture Park with Craig, Greg and Chris. I haven't been down there since it opened in February, it was great to see it with all the construction and landscaping done. Really enjoyed the Vivarium, which is kinda like a greenhouse. They took a fallen tree from the Snake River Watershed, and have let it grow moss, fungi, ferns, etc. Slowly they are adding additional plants, taken from the same area where the tree fell.
We headed up to Interbay after that, for a late lunch at Red Mill Burgers. Soooooooo good, and their onion rings are out of this world (they use corn meal for breading, yum!). Came home, napped, and that was that.
