A confluence of good things.

One of my favorite radio shows I like to catch on Teh Internets is Annie Mac's Mash Up on BBC Radio 1. The show is broadcast in the UK on Friday nights from 10pm to midnight, and the show is available online as a real audio stream for a week after. She doesn't play all mash-ups in the sense of actual mash-up tracks, it's more in terms of the diverse styles of music she spins. This week's show has Klaxons, Outkast, Chemical Brothers, Arcade Fire, Dizzee Rascal, Josh Wink, Rage Against The Machine, etc. Fun stuff for a Friday night!

My favorite part of her show is the Mini Mix, and there is usually one or two per show, done by guest musicians/DJs. She usually interviews them for a little bit first before playing the mix (which was recorded before hand). The really cool thing about these Mini Mixes is that they're 5 minutes in length, and the artist has total freedom to cram as much music as possible into that amount of time. Some of them are truly inspired - I've heard ones with 20-30 tracks spliced together!

I'm going to post one that I had archived, but haven't listened to for a while. Recent blog references to Mel & Kim and S'Express motivated me to dig around and find it. This one is done by the mysterious producer who goes by Rex the Dog. Rex has done some excellent tracks on Kompakt, and some damn fine electro remixes of Client, Depeche Mode, The Knife, Prodigy and Røyksopp. The interview portion of the Mini Mix is not included, but it was really funny. Since Rex is a dog, he would only reply to Annie's questions in barks (1 for yes, 2 for no). Nice! What a smart dog, that Rex.

Rex The Dog Mini Mix:
Mel & Kim : Showing Out
Bangkok Impact : Masters of the Universe
S'Express : Theme From S'Express
Prodigy : Girls (Rex the Dog remix)
Ellen Allien : Trashscapes (Anthony Rother remix)
DJ Koze : Brutalga Square
Mel & Kim : Respectable

Download : Rex's Mini Mix (3.1 mb, bit rate not all that great)
Stream : Annie Mac's Show on BBC Radio 1
