Halcyon days

When I came home for lunch today, Brandon suggested that I play hooky from work for the rest of the aftermoon and go for a bicycle ride instead. I agreed that it was much too nice of a day to spend cooped up on a windowless office, so i texted the boss and requested to burn a couple of vacation hours.

We took the bikes down to visit the duck pond at our favorite park and basked in the sunshine for a bit. Then we biked down to the community garden to harvest some veggies. Dinner was grilled steak for Brandon and grilled garden-grown zucchini for me. I even managed to meet up with my workout buddy for an evening gym session.

Was it the most responsible choice I could have made? Probably not. Do I regret taking half the day off on a whim? Not one bit. I feel like this week is my last bit of respite before we dive headfirst into our crazy February schedule. Besides, as someone once pointed out (very astutely), "It's not exactly like we're saving lives here." The world won't end if I put off work for one more day.
