Fitness goals and milestones

- I bench pressed 100 pounds yesterday. The lift wasn't beautiful, but I did it. That's a new personal best! I hope to be able to bench my body weight by the end of March.

- About a month ago, I began incorporating front squats into my workout routine. It was something of a revelation to me because they immediately felt more intuitive than regular squats ever did. I used to dread doing squats because I always felt like I was about to fall over. Now that I've figured out front squats, even regular squats seem easier. It might even be time for me to start setting a squat lifting goal.

- I've put running on the back burner for the time being. Running's just not at the top of my goal list right now. Besides, shin splits really suck, and I don't feel like exacerbating a recurring problem. However, I am planning on doing a hike up South Mountain for a charity event (5 miles up, 5 miles down, but an easy trail) at the end of February. Perhaps I will work on running sometime in the spring.

Fitness Goals for the first half of 2009 (end of June):
- The aforementioned bench press goal
- Doing 5 pull-ups for a set (I did 4 yesterday!)
- Doing 25 push-ups for a set (I can usually do 20)
- Deadlifting 100 pounds (I can do about 90, but deadlifting is a little intimidating with my back issues)
- Taking my bike to work or on errands twice a week
- Comfortably lead-climbing 5.9 gym routes
- Comfortably top-roping 5.10 gym routes
- Learning to lead climb outdoors
- Getting more comfortable with over-hung routes
- Running 5K in under 30 minutes (yes, I know how slow that is)
- Taking a yoga class
- Dropping one percent of bodyfat (around 20-21% these days)
