Hello again LJ

Feb 29, 2012 10:24

I'm breaking my long LJ hiatus to start journaling again.  Although,   this time I'm not going to make most of the journals private.

I've been spending as much time as possible writing music over the last 6 months.   In case you are curious, I have some tunes up at http://soundcloud.com/thom-morrow/

But my reason for this journal is only tangentially related to that.  I recently watched an Ill.Gates video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XVQ8c19unnM about creative flow and getting into better habits about being productive when producing music.  The video actually applies to more then just writing.

I've been less productive over the last few years since the divorce and the new baby.  I've been attempting to change that lately with limited success.  Hopefully,  keeping a daily journal will help with this as suggested in the video.  Although,  I'm breaking his suggestion of doing it in a notebook.  For me, it just works better like this because I'm in front of a computer all of the time.  I'm hoping this will help clear my mind and I'll have less distractions at work.

Another suggestion is to have written goals.  So I'm posting this in a public way so that my few LJ friends can see it.

Goals
=====
-Finish another song by the end of March.  (I'm already done 32 bars of the main arrangement on this one).
-Produce a song every 3 months.
-Within 1 year have a live set together.
-Within 2 years have a soundcloud song that has 2000 listens without having to annoyingly spam everyone.
-Within 3 years get payed to play gigs.
---This doesn't have to be a lot of money and isn't really about money.  I just want people to appreciate my music enough that they would be willing to pay to see me play.  Although,  I would also play for free.

I'm not looking to hit it big or anything.  I have a good job with good pay.  But I do love edm and I love producing music.  I always liked the thought of doing it on the side for fun.
