Well it's official there was a snowball fight in hell...It's frozen over!!!
The last three nights I've been so tired between work, home and visiting my mom in the hospital that I've been in bed before 10:30. In fact the only reason I'm still up tonight is because I fell asleep earlier watching a movie with the kids. Tonight was the first night that I left the hospital early enough to help make supper.
On a positive note my mom seems to be doing much better, overall. Her surgery was a week ago today. Yesterday they finally removed her NG tube because her bowels finally started moving...a very good sign post-op. She was able to eat (?) liquids...my kind of diet popcicles, jello, etc.
Today she was moved up to soft foods...add applesauce and ice cream. She has developed a touch of pnumonia but not a serious case. She is responding well to antibiotics and now we can give her a good reason to get up and move more. She is still getting IV nutrients (glucose, vitamins and lipids) but if she starts eating better than they will discontinue that as well.
They did remove the pain pump (morpheine) today so she is having a little more trouble with pain control. In fact since the NG tube has been removed that has been her chief complaint. But they do remove the morpheine as quickly as possible since it is so highly addictive. I only stayed with her for a short time today because I promised the kids to spend some time with them tonight. And frankly I wanted to get a start on my weekend chores since my house looks like a tornado has blown through it since I've been so tired.
The oncologist also stopped in last night while I was there and I was finally able to corner him and get some questions answered. That has relieved a great deal of the stress I've been feeling...I hate uncertainty. I like to know what the plan is so I can prepare myself and the kids for what is coming.
She will have the next 4 to 6 weeks to recover from the surgery (she will probably be released mid-week, next week) then they will be doing chemothearpy. They are still deceiding what type of thearpy to do because of a recently published report on a different type of treatment for stage 3 Ovarian cancer. It will probably be a very harsh thearpy the will include 6 rounds of chemo, administered every 3 weeks, over an 18 week period.
It will be a difficult period but mom and I set a goal for her to be recovered in time for the Haunt Town Trail Ride in early October. If its sooner great but thats what we are shooting for.
Thanks again to everyone for your thoughts and prayers....you are the best!!!!
