“I seem perfectly innocent to me.”

“You what?”

“What? I am innocent! I’m the picture of innocence!”

“The day you truly are innocent is the day the universe will stop from shock, Sunshine!”

“Donna! That’s not fair! And why are you laughing?”

“Because you should have seen the look on your face, Spaceman. ‘That’s not fair’ is a line only teenagers and the absolutely spoilt use when things don’t go their way in an argument. Calmly noting it about a situation where there’s no argument is different, but you? It makes you look less like the old man you say you are and more like an overgrown man-child.”

“Man-child?!?!”

“Yeah. A man who acts like a child when things don’t go his way. Did you travel with a lot of people who did that, revert to childhood instead of taking things on the chin?”

“Um… point taken.”

“So… going to take back your words?”

“But I did think I was innocent! I’m not always up to something!”

“True, but you have to admit that my innocent face is better than yours. You didn’t know that I had eaten the last of the digestives until I bought more.”

“You could have told me!”

“Just as you could have told me about what you were planning today. We might not have been chased if you had.”

“How was I supposed to know that -?”

“That’s always your refrain, isn’t it? You can’t have the TARDIS run a little check to make sure you got the date and time right?”

“Where’s the fun in that?!”

“Maybe knowing you had the chance to save more people?”

“...”

“Point to me!”

“Can’t you be nice to a man when he’s down?”

“Yeah. I can.”

“Then why aren’t you now?”

“Because you haven’t yet realized just how daft your words sounded.”

“Daft?”

“Think about what you said. Now imagine you heard someone else saying it. How smart does it sound now?”

“Point taken. All right, it was silly of me.”

“There, that wasn’t so hard, was it?”

“Have you thought about how embarrassing it is?”

“Chin up. At least I’m the only witness.”

“Small comfort.”

“Oi!”

“Please, may we drop it?”

“Fine. But one of these days you’d better think before we go somewhere.”

“Fine. I’m thinking. Can I have a hug now?”
