Hokay... So, I got up this morning far earlier than I should have for a Saturday- as you can see by the fact that I am actually awake right now. But really, I had to get up to march in a parade in front of an audience of... oh... maybe 100 people (about 80 of which had to be there because it's their job to go to things like this). Interesting uniform combination today: service dress (think of a 2-piece suit), service caps (like one of those round hats bus drivers wear), white gloves, and ... combat boots?!?!?! To make matters even better, the parade field was approximately the consistency of diarrhea, and got all over our boots... and our pants. Needless to say, our pants are ruined and our boots need a lot of work before they're wearable again, so that 20 folks could watch us stand around for a long time, salute a couple times, and walk in a little circle. But we do these things gladly, because we're warriors! or something like that... the line they feed us goes something like that.

Anyway, it sounds like we're going to start having a lot more parades coming up- about one a week.  It's gonna suck.  And, they're supposed to be in Parade Dress (if you don't know what it looks like, see the pics below) from now on, so you can imagine what the mud will do to those pants.  It's a good thing we have a weekly laundry/dry cleaning service, otherwise we'd be spending a lot of time running those pants to the cleaners and back.

Oh, well, at least we're down to the last 60 days before graduation- and going home.

For those of you not familiar with what the USAFA Parade Dress looks like (I'm guessing that's most of you), here you go.  Normally, we'd have a white belt with a big metal buckle, too, but for some reason the belts haven't been issued yet (welcome to the very organized world of USAFA).

Oh, and just for fun... here's what my pants and boots look like right now.  Check my pic in yesterday's post to see what my boots usually look like.
