My family? They can make anything fun.

I can't remember when I last cried at a family event. Perhaps, it had been at my grandma's funeral. That was nearly ten years ago.

Last night, I fought back tears a few times. I can't help it, I am truly a sentimental sap. Most of the night was spent laughing and smiling watching the kids and adults play various games from the Wii to Poker. At one point during the night, we were even playing a game that I had played with my little cousins when they were younger. They did not know how to play MJ when they were younger, nor were they into gambling, which seems odd in a family of high rollers.

It was a game that involved no strategy and only luck. It did not even involve betting, but slowly and surely, my cousins starting making bets on who was going to win and there was cheering in the crowd. Shirley was right, "our family can make anything fun." Over the years, we had gone from playing Crazy Eights to Taboo, Scavenger Hunt to Amazing Race, and even three-legged races to eating contests.

I know that I'll be back during Christmas, but I can't help but get teary eyed in feeling how lucky I am to be part of this family. That even if Australia is as beautiful as it is, there is nothing like the love of a family that keeps me coming back home.

I've been single through various stages of my life, but my family never made me feel alone. They helped me celebrate my successes big and small. I can only smile thinking about all the wonderful memories ahead in the years to come.
