A Slap for New York

New York City. You should be ashamed of your fans, specifically, Yankess fans. They are classless, and horrible hosts. Fine, boo the Red Sox players that are there to play in the All-Star game. I don't care. We'd probably do the same to your players. It's part of the rivalry ( Read more... )

I believe, and hope I'm right, that the vast majority of New Yorkers don't fit into the category of people I ranted about in my post. I have great respect for the city, most of its people, and even it's great sports teams. When a fan like me says "I hate the Yankees", it's a "hatred" that is in a different class. It's a sports thing. A rivalry. Save for a few players that have come through that organization, I have great respect for the Yankees. They have often been a great team, and a great source of frustration for Red Sox fans. But it doesn't go beyond the game for me. Yeah, it was great to finally come back and beat them in 2004. As a Sox fan, I will smile when the Yankees don't win it all, and smile bigger when we do something good. But I have the ability to put that aside. If I give a Yankees fan a hard time it's all in good fun. What upset me were some of the comments made by media and fans toward family members of Red Sox. That goes beyond the game, and is unnecessary. So even as a Bostonian, I love New York and most of its people. I'd welcome them here like I'd want to be welcomed there. I just think some people crossed the line, and I hope they think better of it before doing it again.
