Title: Memories of Our Love
Character(s)/Pairings: Colby/OFC-Callie
Rating: G
Summary: It's a love story...
Author’s Notes: Remembrance doesn't always have to be a reflection on something sad. I'm a hopeless romantic and who better to express that through than Callie and Colby. This is based on the highschool AU version of these two. Callie was created by mustangcandi and I thank her for allowing me to use her (and I'm sure Colby does too. *wink). Thanks also for being my beta!
Spoilers: None
Disclaimer: I don't own anything affiliated with Numb3rs...sad.

Colby stood on the beach next to his best friend Hunter Stevens, looking out over the crowd of people who were all waiting just as anxiously as he was. Some smiled back at him, others already had tears in their eyes and some couldn’t take their eyes off the spot where they knew his bride-to-be would be emerging.

He shifted once more, burying his toes in the sand and trying his best not to shove his hands into his pockets. It was a habit he’d picked up long ago and one he knew was totally inappropriate for the moment.

Hunter pat him reassuringly and seconds later, he caught his first glimpse of her. His Cal. His breath was taken away, his heart was pounding, and he was sure the smile on his face made him look nothing short of goofy.

She was facing him now and she smiled at him, in the way he knew she saved just for him and in that moment, he was transported back to the day he met her.

Life had been normal…run of the mill…mediocre. He was a typical small-town boy making his way through high school one day at a time, just waiting to graduate so he could enlist and start fulfilling the plans that he had for his life. Until then, he was just filling time.

That was, until the day he walked into school and his life was changed forever. It had started out just as normal as every other day. He got up early, had breakfast and then headed to school. He walked inside and as he was on his way to his locker, he was stopped in his tracks. He felt his heart racing and his mouth going dry as his gaze fell upon the most beautiful girl he’d ever seen.

He wasn’t like most of his friends who had girlfriend after girlfriend or who felt like they had to have a girl on their arm at all times. Most of the girls they knew, he had known since they were in diapers and quite frankly, seeing the change in all of them since that time, he was uninterested in dating any of them. Now and then he would ask a girl to a party or something, but usually they ended up not even seeing each other for the entire evening so he didn’t really count those as dates.

Today…he understood why he’d never fallen for any of those girls. His heart was meant for only one and she was standing in the very hallway he had trekked down for nearly three years now. She was taller than most girls her age and her hair…god…it was captivating. He tried to discern the exact color and the only word that came to mind was fire. Red curls…tons of red curls, pulled up into a neat ponytail that cascaded down her back that seemed to glisten with natural highlights. Something about it just made him want to touch it, even if the mere thought was ridiculous considering he had no idea who she was.

Then, she had turned to look his way and upon seeing him looking at her, she smiled. He was sure his knees were going to buckle at any moment and he was going to find himself in a very embarrassing situation. He smiled back at her and gave a wave before he tried to figure out what to do. Should he talk to her, or just wait to see if she said anything first? Maybe he should just go about his business and hope that she was also in his classes.

He stepped closer to her and as he did, he knew this was it. This was the moment that most people waited their whole lives for and never experienced. The moment he looked into those pure, emerald eyes of hers, he knew he was in love. Suddenly, the guy who could easily make conversation with anyone and who never had a problem making friends was feeling awkward and oddly enough, a little shy.

She was looking at him expectantly and he smiled at her as he sighed, “I…uh…I’m Colby. Colby Granger.”

She extended her hand and as he reached out and shook it, he could swear the electric current that passed between them was surely visible. Her voice was sweet and strong as she replied, “I’m Callie…Callie Walker. It’s nice to meet you.”

His entire world changed with that exchange. He had walked her to that first class and spent months after that trying to find ways to talk to her without making himself look like a fool. He spent long nights lying awake thinking about her, looking up at the sky and wondering if she was doing the same. For the first time in his life he experienced jealousy and it came in full force, making up for lost time.

Callie was beyond beautiful. She was smart, she was funny…and none of this went unnoticed, especially with the guys. He had to grit his teeth and clench his fists any time he saw any of them flirting with her and tried his best not to act on what he was feeling…at least not until football practice when he let out his frustrations on all the right players.

Finally, the Winter Carnival rolled around and even though he was scared that things wouldn’t turn out the way he hoped, he’d gone in with a plan. Luckily, Fate was on his side and that night, he shared his very first kiss with his true love on the ferris wheel. His life had truly started in that moment.

From then on, nothing about his life was mediocre or run of the mill. His life was extraordinary and it was all due to Callie and her love. They’d shared all of the high school milestones and though he considered changing his plans, Callie wouldn’t hear of it. She saw him off to Basic Training and then to his stationed post in Afghanistan.

That time in his life was very dark and he was certain the one thing that saved his life, countless times, was the knowledge that his Cal was waiting for him to come home to her. She wrote to him and each and every letter gave him the strength he needed to go on, to do the things he needed to do and to get back home to her safely.

He was a changed man when he came back, riddled with scars that were both physical and mental…but somehow he was lucky enough to find that Callie still loved him just as much. More than that, she said yes when he asked her to marry him.

This thought brought him back to the present. Callie took her last step towards him and again his breath was taken away as he took in her beauty. This was the greatest day of his life and he knew that someday, he would be looking back on this moment as yet another great milestone in his life…a life that was made whole by Callie’s love. She had made him know what it meant to be alive…had made a boy into a man and now was giving this mere man a chance to be her husband.

All the times he would ever look back on, would forever be made better by Callie, his one and only…his everything.
