The boxing gym was packed with folks today, I think because Sharmba Mitchell was going to be sparring for an upcoming fight. I'm surprised that he wants to get back in there after getting nearly killed by Kostya Tsyzu, but I guess folks gotta make a living. There were a bunch of teenagers in there too. There's a big difference between starting when you're 30 and when you're 8, obviously. These kids have loose shoulders, and great speed and power for their size. They move naturally and confidently, with the muscle memory down pat. It's not the same when you're older, there's tension in the shoulders and movements will never come completely naturally. Where I have to think to move (thus losing important split seconds), these kids just move.

I'm still loving it, though. It's awkward and difficult, and I know I'll never look as silky smooth as even these youngsters, but I have something to aspire to. And I have spiffy new boxing shoes.
