There is no one on earth I'm afraid of

This morning I listened to Morrissey on my way into work, and thought about how great it would be if the Smiths got together for a reunion tour. This got me to thinking about the Pixies, and how when I was younger I really didn't like them much at all. My friend Steve (who coincidentally called me for the first time in years last night) was a huge fan, and all through high school and college was trying to get me to listen to them. He was huge into Sonic Youth and the Pixies, raving about Daydream Nation and Doolittle. Anyway, I'm still not what I would consider a big fan of the Pixies, I did buy Doolittle a couple of years ago, but never really listen to it.

It got me to thinking about how 'cool' the Pixies are now, or whatever, and it seems strange to me that they're selling out so many shows. Weren't they kind of noisy and weird and didn't really have that that many fans in the first place? Did something change, are they really any less noisy and weird? For a second there I got caught up in the 'Oh, how cool, the Pixies are together I should see them on tour!' but I've never even heard anything other than doolittle, surfer rosa and whatever the other early record was called. Sure, gigantic was kind of a cute song, as well as here comes your man and where is my mind, but I defiantly will say that no, i was not a huge pixies fan, I will likely never be a huge pixies fan, and I'm cool with that.

This of course is not a slight to people who have been fans for a long time, I recognize how important they have been to rock music, etc.
