So I love Desperate Housewives (y Amas de Casa Desesperadas tambien!) but they keep switching it from 8:00 to 9:00 MST and back again. So I started setting the VCR (yes I am old school dearies!) to tape from 8:00-10:00, which means when DH is on at 8:00 I also catch Brothers and Sisters at 9:00.
The original idea was to fast forward through it because the last thing I need is another addictive TV show. But when it came down to it, what the hey, I thought I'd give it a shot.
It wasn't long before I realized that B&S has a great cast. It's kind of like Dallas but set in California and instead of JR we have the Flying Nun. I am not making this up!
So Sally Fields (aka. the Flying Nun) has two daughters, one of which is Calista Flockhart. The other one is Rachel Griffiths, who played Brenda Chenowith (the older brother Nate's wife) in Six Feet Under.
In B&S Rachel plays Sarah Walker, who is trying to get a website startup going. OK I am sorta in the midst of this also so this really catches my eye so to speak. She says she's so busy with trying to get her company going that, among a host of other things (including her daughter, facebook and twitter) she hasn't been exercising.
That's me! I mean the exercising (and twitter) parts, not the daughter (don't have kids and don't want them) and facebook (doin' that, in a manner of speaking) parts.
Uhg, I swear just like her only my fat clothes fit anymore and I feel old and fat and gross! Wow I sometimes find it hard to relate to characters on TV shows (being so unique and all) but this really hit home big time!
That is, that was me until last month, when I "finished" my project. I quickly got back on my exercise tapes. These things rock!
The ones I start with are almost 20 years old! It's a set of three "Super Shapeup Program" videos made by HBO. They feature Sports Illustrated swimsuit models and are set in a spa in Norwich Connecticut. Each is about 45 minutes long and they are very high quality!
The first one is called Stretch and Strength with Elle McPherson. It's very easy but when you're starting out it can be a little challenging and when you finally manage to put it in and do it, it's very effective, because it gets you going.
The second one is Body Sculpting with Rachel Hunter. It's a little bit harder but it's a great second step. The third one is Aerobics with Cheryl Tiegs but I haven't done that one much. As I recall you need to keep taking your heart rate which gets a bit tedious after awhile. Maybe I will give it another shot in a few weeks or so....
After a few weeks of those I got started with the Perfectly Fit series with Claudia Schiffer. There are four of them (PF Buns, PF Arms, PF Abs, and PF Legs) and they are shorter, around 20-25 minutes each. They are a bit more difficult than the HBO/Sports Illustrated ones! I actually got sore the first time I did a couple of them but now I am OK.
The first few weeks I got in three tapes per week but so far this month I've been doing five per week. Just might do six this week and go for seven the next!
I have a bunch of other tapes from back in the day, and am pretty psyched. I remember some of them suck and some are pretty hard but it will be fun to go through them again.
I also have some yoga tapes I should start doing, as I recall they are short (20 mins) but pretty nice. They definitely get the blood flowing and have you ever seen a fat yogi/yogini (yoga person)?
So far I am not seeing any results, weight-wise, but I do feel stronger doing things around the house, and I do feel more energy. I'd been meaning to get started with these for awhile and am so glad I got off my butt.
Yay for essersize!!
