Well I've been 23 for a whole week now, and what a week its been. My birthday was pretty good, as in the morning before work, I went to Kohl's with my mom and got two new pairs of sneakers and a pair of sandals. Unfortunately, when I went to get a lobster roll at Duchess, they were all out. Later, I went to dinner with my parents and grandparents at an Italian restaurant in the Amity section of New Haven which was delicious. I had some seafood and pasta dish, which are two of my favorite foods, so combined, they are even better. Afterwards, I went to TK's in New Haven with Adam, Matt, and Katie, which I sadly I had never been to before, as they have 30 flavors of wings, and best of all, I got 23 free ones for being my 23rd birthday. I think I have found a new favorite spot, especially since they have an outdoor patio as well. We also had a few pitchers of beer, although I didn't have much because I had to drive since Adam's car was broken. That's ok though, as the point of birthdays is to have fun and be with friends, and not just drink. Afterwards we headed to Bar, right next door, where I ran into some Ruby Tuesday coworkers which was nice, because, as I have said before, I do not spend enough time with them outside of work. It was my first time there as well, and it was a pretty cool place too, although I did not get a chance to try the pizza. I guess I will do that next time. On Friday, I went to see Charlie and the Chocolate Factory with my mom, and I also celebrated Friday night by going to Norwalk and hanging out with Aaron and Stephanie (Frank cancelled again!) which fun except for losing Trivial Pursuit by missing the final question four times! Saturday I celebrated with more NH friends, as Jeff, Mary, and I headed to Rei and Bryan's lovely new apartment in Rocky Hill where we watched American Pie 2, my favorite of the American Pie trilogy. Monday I went to went to Steve's in New Bedford and spent the day with him and Shaunessey. Unexpectedly, we ended up in Plymouth, which was fun as we sampled and bought cranberry wine, saw the massive Founding Fathers Memorial, Plymouth Rock (which I remembered not to call Pilgrim Rock this time, although conveniently enough Jake called me while I was standing at it and reminded me of this particular miscue among my many over the years), walked about a mile into the ocean on the breakwater, and capped it off with some margaritas. I even ended up staying the night and driving home the next morning to make my 10:45 shift at Ruby Tuesday, officially ending my birthday. Overall, it was another great birthday weekend. Low-key, but good times and good friends, just the way I like it. Thanks to everyone I saw for a great time, and for those who called, or sent cards, or IMed or whatever, thanks for the birthday wishes as well.
I did get some exciting news on Monday while in Massachusetts, namely that I have been accepted to grad school at the University of Maryland for the fall semester. I can't believe that if I go, my first day of class will be August 31, which means I probably need to be there by the 27th or so, which is barely more than 3 weeks from today. Right now the only thing preventing me from going would be a teaching job, in which case I would need to make a very difficult decision. As Mindee correctly suggested when I was talking to her about it, I think I'd rather not get a job, as it will make the decision easier for me. Even if I do get one, my heart tells me to go to Maryland, but my brain tells me to take the job. I guess I'll have to bring back my old FPS skills and come up with criteria and rank the solutions. If and when I make a decision, I will be sure to let everyone know.
Today I also finished the latest Harry Potter, after about two weeks. The first 400 pages took me until about yesterday, and then the last 200 the last two days, including at work today when I was supposed to be watching the kids at camp. But nobody got hurt, so it was all good. The end of this one was pretty sad, but I can't wait for the next and last one, although it will probably be like three years. I also made two predictions about the end of this one, one that was right (who would die) and one that wrong (about the intentions of a certain character.) I'm kind of surprised at both actually, as I didn't really think I would guess the first right, and I was so sure I was right about the other. Oh well.
