I'm going to say it again. Oh, Edi. I agree with Edi's assessment in the first paragraph, for the most part. That sort of unadulterated joy comes from an innocence that's hard or almost impossible to maintain if you have much contact with the "real" world.
And, oh, the shift from rhapsodizing about her innocence to how he'd like to... do whatever it is he wants to do to her - I can't tell if he literally wants to burn her or if he wants to do something else creepy. I can't tell if HE even knows, and that makes it even more believable for me. Anyway, that shift is so sudden and perfect and that's the kind of crazy I love the most. The kind that'll just turn on a dime like that.
Interesting that at this point he sort of wants to protect her from him, too.
