Title: Fire in the Hole!
Word Count: 301
Author's Note: Oh man. Taesa Taesa Taesa. She's the most grenade-happy character I've ever had the pleasure of working with. *laughs*
They managed to bolt from the alcove just a split second before the grenade went off, sending a shockwave across the empty street and setting off every car alarm on the block. Flaming computer monitors and various other electronics sailed out into the street, some far enough to smash windows on the opposite side of the road.
"Goddammit, Taesa!" Azazel snapped as they took shelter in a narrow alley half a block down. "Enough with the grenades!"
"I'm out of ammo, you idiot!" she snapped, rummaging in her pack and coming up with the heavy-duty slingshot she'd purchased off Taki earlier. "What would you like me to do?!"
"It's a fucking stealth mission!" he bellowed, pressing his palm against one of his ears to try and calm the ringing. His eyes widened when he saw her pull a compact atomic grenade from her pack and yank the pin out with her teeth. "What are you -"
"Fire in the hole!" she yelled, and used the slingshot to launch the grenade across the street, into the broken window of a small pie shop. They took off at a run into the alley just as the Deviants pursuing them hit the street, and the subsequent blast was so violent it threw both of them to the ground, the darkness around them melting away in a shockwave of blinding light. Even sheltered by a building and several dumpsters, Azazel felt his fur and skin sear painfully from the blast - when he dared open his eyes, Taesa was grinning brightly beneath her smoking ears and bangs.
"You..." He was gasping for breath, and coughed loudly. "I... I hate you so much right now."
"How do you think I feel?" she asked, and peered down the hallway with a pout. "That was my favorite bakery."
