This year was the first year that I took real steps to prepare for the hurricane season. I bought a big cooler to put some supplies and food in, and large water containers. Luckily, it was a slow season, and none came near.
In November, with the season over, it was time to remove the non-perishable food and figure out what to do with it. This year, I chose to shelf it because we have some extra people in our house, and the food came in handy. Future years, however, I anticipate it will be a sudden and really unnecessary surplus. I noticed that the hurricane season ends right around the time of the biggest food drives... so, why not combine the two events? I would like to start a tradition of donating my hurricane food supplies each year in November. I urge anyone reading to think about this for next year.
