Have just been researching historical identity fraud. I've been coming up with ideas for some short story competitions and I thought that identity fraud before the internet seemed to be a good topic for short crime fiction. There are some very amusing cases of people attempting to connect themselves with royalty and important clergy but I particularly like the reports of women who successfully passed themselves off as men.
In fact I have searched Amazon for the following book: Amazons and Military Maids : Women Who Dressed as Men in Pursuit of Life, Liberty and Happiness by Julie Wheelwright.
It seems that despite being published in the UK I'll have to get it from the US. What is $13.00 in normal money?

I find the topic very interesting and quite enjoy fiction were women successfully cross-dress. I suppose its a sign of how ingrained gender ideals are in society, that just by dressing and acting a certain way a person can redefine their gender in the eyes of others. It's also a testament to acting skills of the particular person who can live life in a different role to the one that they were brought up with, though i suppose that's easier for some than for others.

OK apparently $13 is about £13, well today at least. However I'll have to start up my own account as Amazon thinks I'm my mother, which would be fine if I had her credit card here with me.
