Yesterday was a lovely day. I went to Malvern to see my aunt and uncle, my cousin and her daughter (and their excitable puppy) were also there. I spent some time with them there. Dinner ended with my aunt and cousin strongly encouraging me to eat ice cream.
I also went to Malvern to see
an art exhibition by the grandmother of a school friend. So my aunt and I went into town and found the gallery (it was just behind where we thought it would be). My friend's mother (the artist's daughter) was there and we had quite a chat. I've known her since before I started school, but I hadn't seen her in years.
The pictures were good, the exhibition was about gardens and about her travels with a local gardener. They were mostly bright and vibrant, with strong use of colour. There were a couple of darker pictures, one of which was industrial-looking and full of greys, it struck me as melancholy. For a while my friend lived with her grandmother, so I had visited her house a few times. I was surprised by how many of the paintings were familiar, a few had been up on the walls or around the house when I'd visited.
After a look around the exhibition me and my aunt went and looked in some bric-a-brac/antique shops. I hadn't realised what an arty place Malvern is -when I was a child it was mostly a place where relatives lived- but we passed several galleries and art shops and little independent shops. We went to the Bran Tub, which is a health food shop that sells a variety of gluten-free food. As well as getting scones and a pasty (both a rarity) I was offered free cake samples, which I could actually eat! This is really quite exciting for me.
We had a quick look at the Priory, which is apparently famed for its stained glass -although I think the windows at Worcester Cathedral are clearer as far as identifying the pictures goes. Plus there's no pink giraffe at the Priory.
It was a really good day.
