5 Things Meme:
Comment on this post and I will give you 5 subjects/things I associate with you. Then post this in your LJ and elaborate on the subjects given.
1. drums - In 8th grade, our band teacher Mr. Lima wanted to start up the school jazz band again, so he called me at home one night and asked me if I had any interest in playing the drum set. At the time I only knew how to play trumpet and euphonium, but he said he would rather have me learn, instead of any of the percussionists in regular band. So, I was basically self-taught, and never really got terribly serious about it. I was decent in high school thanks to drum line in marching band, but my kit-skills have always been lacking. Oh well.
2. geology - I took it in High School as a suggestion from Rob, instead of taking physics or chemistry. I loved it, as I've always been a big-picture kind of thinker, and earth science always intrigued me. After graduation, I had been told several times that it wasn't a good major because you can't really work as a geologist. So I didn't pick a major. I went to SDSU for 2 years, and eventually wound up back at home finishing my B.S. in Geology at SJSU, after much support from Karin. So now here I am, all geologizing and stuff.
3. off-roading - I never thought I was cool enough to have a 4x4 and go off-roading. Everyone involved always seemed so macho and un-inviting. But I bought a jeep really cheap from a co-worker at Precision Tune as a replacement for my POS Sebring that wouldn't run anymore, and things took off from there. I also worked with a 4x4 enthusiast who was really helpful, and we still hang out, years later.
4. being an identical twin - I'm 3 minutes older. Um, Mark and I are a lot alike. I often feel that if we had chosen each other's career paths, we'd do equally well either way. Mark has been my best friend for a pretty long time, and I think we only got into a fight once when we were little. Afterwards we both felt terrible. A lot of my self confidence comes from knowing that there will always be someone out there like me, and I don't have to feel self-conscious about who I am.
5. your pets - We have 2 cats and a Mim. Beau is our big boy kitty, who is passive-aggressive and generally very sweet and lazy. Tia is the three-legged wonder, who is also very sweet, but has her quirks. She's got lots of personality though, and we really love her. Mim is our pet rat. She's white, has dumbo ears and a black patch over half her face. She loves watching Karin at her computer desk, and her favorite things to eat are peanuts and dried carrots. I made her a house out of balsa wood, but she started chewing it to shreds right away, and we're afraid to have her actually use it. So it sits on top of her cage and she can look at it when she wants :p
