Home again.
Trip home was uneventful. Joe and I took turns driving, so when I got tired, he relieved me.
This morning, after I got locked out of my car, the locksmith came pretty quickly. His first attempt at opening my door (prying open the space between the window and door and trying to jimmy it that way) didn't work, but his second attempt (he used an inflatable bladder, put it between the front door and the frame, pushed the door out some so he could slip a rod in to unlock the door) did. Easy peasy. And neat to watch.
We were on the road and halfway to picking up Terence when I got an automated phone call saying that my service should be there in 10 minutes. That was quick!
We picked up Terence and headed downtown to Pike Place Market. (Actually, I saw
jadeejf at the bus stop on my way down. I forgot that my car had a horn, so I wasn't able to get her attention.)
We got to Pike Place pretty early, which means that we got the attention of every vendor. Which means that we got lots of free samples. I did but a bit of goat cheese (mmm, goat cheese!) before I left, but nothing else. Except the peroshkies we had for a mid-morning lunch. Terence also took us to a left-wing bookstore around the corner, which is where Terence left us. Joe and I stayed a while, looking at all the books (this one came up on Saturday! I haven't heard a question about that one in a while!) before leaving to come back to Boise.
The tournament went pretty well. We finished the academic tournament on Saturday in 3rd place, and tallied one win against the first place team. Not too bad. We came in third-to-last in the trash tournament the next day. That says something, right? Everybody on the team except me had a higher scoring average on the academic tournament than the trash tournament. I'm the only one who did better on the trash tournament. That says something, too, I guess. :)
I thought the tournament on Saturday would be hard, but when Joe started the first round with two consecutive powers, I figured we'd be OK. On the round where we beat the first-placed team, I started the round with a neg. It was back-and-forth through the whole match, and came down to the last question with us leading, 205-200. The team that answered it correctly would win. I redeemed my leadoff neg by getting that one correct, and we won. It was a pretty exciting match.
Dinner with
jadeejf at Blue C Sushi on Saturday, and we tried to go to Aqua Verde for dinner on Sunday, but it is closed on Sundays. As is the next place we tried, a vegan place Terence knew about. We ended up just going to an arbitrary vegetarian-friendly restaurant on University Ave. And that's about all we did for the weekend. It was a lot of fun, and Terence said he enjoyed it a lot more than he thought he would. He'd be open to playing again next time we come down for a tournament.
