I'd make way more excuses for my lack of updates, but let's face it; you don't want to hear 'em. So let's skip to the interesting stuff, shall we?
Well, first of all, the one-act play that I was in won at the local competition and we headed up to Red Deer to a gathering of the best one acts in the province to showcase it in front of an adjudicator who (unfortunately) is my drama's teacher ARCHENEMY OF DOOM.
Well, not quite that bad. They do respect each other, but just never agree. You know what I mean?
However, the adjudicator LOVED IT. We got tons of awards and he called it a rapture and a bunch of other highly complimentary and slightly phsycotic things.
And now, the most important part of all: PRINCE CASPIAN.
I LOVED IT.
*Spoilers Ahead*
I've been reading the Chronicles of Narnia since I was about six and they are some of the most influential books ever in my life, so I don't say that lightly. But it was brilliant. Caspian was a lot older than it says in the book, but I didn't mind; they had to make a choice about marketing and how they were going to portray the story, and if there were just a bunch of kids on the poster (Caspian's supposed to be, like, twelve or something) I think the theatres would be overrun by toddlers, and this is not a kids' movie.
Miraz was fantastic. So human; not an evil axe-murderer, but someone willing to do anything in order to get power.
The four Pevensies were amazing. They portray their charcters really well, and I'm sad to see Peter and Susan go. And, hey, what did you guys think of the romance between Caspian and Susan?
The sets were exactly right. Cair Paravel was PRECISELY how I imagined. The battle which went wrong wasn't in the book, but I didn't mind it; movies that try to take books and put them exactly as they are on film never succeed. Just two different mediums, I suppose.
But please tell me what you guys thought of it! I'd love to hear!
*End Spoilers*
But after watching the movie, I got on a British kick (Well, I guess, a stereotypical British kick, which isn't exactly the same thing). I re-read all the Narnia series and am now onto E.Nesbit and Elizabeth Goudge and Frances Hodgins Burnett and the Brontees. I'm going through teabages like nobody's business and I've discovered, to my great delight, the manifold joys of marmalade.
I'm also practising for my Grade Nine piano exam, so I must now withdraw back to the world of arpeggios, fortes, and cut-your-nails-or-I'll-kill-you-with-a-metronome.
It's a pleasure being back. Hasta la vista.
