Personality:
People meeting Fang for the first time in a peaceful setting will discover a confident woman with a ready smile, someone given to teasing or even flirting, and who invokes the figure Lady Luck regularly. These people could be forgiven if they walked away from the encounter thinking that Fang is just an easygoing, friendly trickster. They would, however, also be completely wrong. While this certainly is part of her personality, and the way she prefers to interact with people, Fang at heart is a deeply responsible and protective soul. If she feels someone has become a threat to her or her friends, she will go from friendly to hostile without a second thought. She is a warrior through-and-through, just one that refuses to forget that life is fun as well.

That responsibility and protective instinct go hand in hand: Fang puts everything on her own shoulders, especially the safety and well-being of those close to her. Or as Vanille says, "Fang doesn't fight because she's strong, though she is quite strong. She fights because she's kind. She can never forgive those who hurt the people she loves." While this is true throughout the whole game, it's also where Fang grows the most. Stubborn and proud, Fang initially hates Cocoon and is very scornful of the people who live there. But through her interactions with the Cavalry, the other party members, and the various people they meet along the way, Fang realizes that the fal'Cie are the real enemy, and that everything she'd been told about Cocoon was a lie. Suddenly she's fighting alongside her former enemies to protect the place she once tried to destroy. And while she never makes a big deal out of it, Fang slowly starts reaching out a little more, smoothing over some of the rougher edges as she grows to accept this new family and home.

For all of her growth in this area, however, Fang never really fully opens herself up to anyone. Fang has no problem admitting fault - as long as she doesn't feel all that guilty about it or that it's that important. Otherwise, she just doesn't let her weakness show: even when her Eidolon, Bahamut, first appears, which is supposed to indicate a huge internal crisis, Fang doesn't show a hint of it beforehand. She's even turned her weapon on her friends, declaring without hesitation or apparent doubt that she'll just go on by herself. When Bahamut appears one of her teammates even says (in obvious confusion), "Wait, so you haven't made up your mind?" When she doubts Vanille's word, Fang doesn't consult with anyone, keeping it to herself until she's ready to confront her.

In fact, the only time Fang ever truly shows hesitation is when she attempts to apologize to Sazh for her role in his son's fate. That is something she does feel very responsible for, and very guilty about. Suddenly this woman who always speaks up is obviously tongue-tied and uncomfortable. Fang still isn't used to relying on other people for anything, not even help or forgiveness.

Coming from after the final boss battle will help smooth over this particular problem - once again she goes it alone, and that only gets the others (apparently) turned into Cie'th and her tortured. In the end, it's all of them and the bonds they've forged that finally win the day, and Fang has certainly taken note of that. It will also quiet some of Fang's intensity; though her desire to protect won't falter at all, there will no longer be a time limit or a fate worse than death hanging over her head. After one has accomplished the impossible, after all, training a Pokemon seems like no big deal.

Strengths/Weaknesses:

Strengths: Fang is incredibly strong. Both physically, as she is the strongest in the party, but also in terms of willpower; Fang is not one to give up easily. Similarly, her confidence gives her that devil-may-care attitude and a "wild fearlessness" (as Lightning calls it), meaning that Fang won't shrink away from any situation.
She is kinder than she usually lets on, and seems to have a certain amount of empathy with even non-humans. This is shown in her ability to quickly tame a wyvern (at least just enough to allow the group to escape an airship) and the fact that she was the only one able to understand the statues in Tejin's Tower.
She is, at this moment, also fairly adaptable; the culture shock from Cocoon to Johto is nowhere near as bad as from Gran Pulse to Cocoon!

Weaknesses: Vanille. No, really: Fang has a HUGE blind spot when it comes to her. In a conversation with Lightning, Fang reveals that her whole motivation throughout the game is to save Vanille, to the extent of saying "Pulse and Cocoon can rot for all I care!" Fang will throw absolutely everything away to protect Vanille, and to hell with the consequences. Just look at the end of the game! Ragnarok is fueled by negative emotions, especially hate and despair - her helplessness at seeing Vanille being tortured was enough to push Fang over that edge. For all her newfound compassion/commitment to Cocoon, she'd destroy it all to save her family. And while Vanille is the best example of this, Fang can have the same tunnel vision over anything that she feels strongly about.
She also has a temper, and though it's not as short-fused as some, when she gets worked up she does incredibly stupid things: best example being when she killed the priest and attacked Anima during her l'Cie ceremony. The idiot.
The previously mentioned unwillingness to confide in others makes her take on too much on her own. In the best case this slows her down, in the worst she could end up working at cross-purposes with people.

Samples
First Person Sample:
[ The video feed opens to Fang sitting on the ground and sifting through her backpack. As she pulls things out she sets them to one side, where a Bagon is also inspecting them. ] Y'know, I'm getting kinda tired of waking up someplace completely different. Once is enough, even if there's a welcome party this time 'round.

[ She starts to put the tube of toothpaste down, but the Bagon takes it from her hand. She turns to him. ] You don't want to eat that. Trust me.

[ And looking back at the feed. ] Though I don't think they were any happier to see me. They did give me all this, and said to raise the little guy here, but they never said why. And- [ She pauses as she finds something in the bag, then pulls out a long purple cape, the sort that a dragon tamer wears. Her brisk tone turns amused as she looks it over. ] -And people said Gran Pulse fashion was odd.

Third Person Sample:
She hadn't expected to be awake ever again. But here she was, crouched in the middle of a small town, looking over a two foot tall blue animal - Pokemon, she reminded herself - that was curiously staring back at her. "And what am I supposed to do with you?" Fang asked the creature. She couldn't help but feel wary about this situation - the people here certainly seemed nice, and had given her a bag of supplies, but...

But her lance was nowhere to be found, and she felt weaker and slower than she ever had. Her l'Cie powers were also gone, despite the white mark still on her arm. Just another mystery: she had had no dreams, nor had any fal'Cie seen fit to give her a new Focus. Perhaps it remained as a reminder of what she would return to, because if there was one thing painfully obvious to Fang, it was that this town was certainly not part of Gran Pulse.

And in this world, one local had explained with the exaggerated patience of someone forced to go through something for the hundredth time, these Pokemon were the ones who fought. It bothered Fang. The creature had walked forward when she spoke to it, and she ran her fingers over the hard ridges of his head before scratching under his chin where his arms couldn't reach. "There's a good boy," she murmured as it - he, she hoped - closed his eyes and leaned into her hand. "But I fight my own battles." In fact, more than just unsettling her, the ease with which the man had explained the process of Pokeballs and fighting had actually angered her. Like they expected her to act like some fal'Cie herself! Bottling the poor guy up and only letting him out when she needed him for something!

Watching him enjoy the attention brought Fang's thoughts up short as she realized that she really didn't know enough about him. The man had said something about that too, and Fang dug one-handed into the bag until she found the small device she'd been given. Just point it at the Pokemon and...there. She studied the small screen and, for the first time since she'd woken up in this strange place, her lips curved into an amused smile. "Bagon. A dragon type, huh?" Whatever that meant, but at least it seemed appropriate.

However, that smile faded slightly as she read further. "Dreaming of one day flying..." Fang was already thinking of her Eidolon, and now she couldn't help but remember the sharp tang of adrenaline in her mouth, the pounding of her heart matching precisely with each beat of wings, and the utter exhilaration of being totally in tandem with her dragon, the perfect dance that made them totally unstoppable.

Maybe, she thought, letting her hand fall away from the Bagon and watching as he opened his eyes to look back at her (and yes, the machine had confirmed his gender), maybe that's what this was supposed to be. He was not supposed to be a tool, but a partner.

"I'm gonna call you Bahamut, okay?" she said, and the Pokemon made a noise that sounded like agreement. "I'm sure the big guy won't mind," she continued as she stood, reaching down to sling the bag over her shoulder. "But I still ain't gonna stick you back in that ball. C'mon. Let's go see if anyone else ended up here."

Fang glanced down to make sure Bahamut was keeping pace with her, and her shoulders slowly relaxed. She still didn't like it much, but maybe this would work out after all.
