Shocked

I hadn't realised how undemocratic our electoral system really is. I heard a thing on the radio the other day where someone was explaining that because of the huge variation in the size of constituencies, Labour have to win many fewer votes to win a seat than other parties do. I've just been playing with the BBC's election seat calculator - and according to its sums, in the (admittedly unlikely) situation of LibDems getting more actual votes than either the Conservatives or Labour, they would still get fewer seats! - I plugged in theoretical figures of 35% LibDem, 30% Con, 25% Lab - and what got spat out was 231 labour seats, 215 conservatives and 175 LibDems - the first shall be last and the last shall be first, indeed! Obviously the maths isn't exactly reliable because they are applying average swings uniformly, but it's still completely shocking to me.
