i've been all emo lately

so i need to use my lj.

i want-- nay-- NEED it to be christmastime. i'm not some materialistic whore who can't wait to get a new j.crew cashmere sweater (the only thing ever on my christmas list, mind you). or the fact that my birthday and xmas are in the same week and i wants me some cake (maybe that.)

just, everything is RIGHT at christmas. people get happy and polite at christmas. you smile at people in the streets at christmas.

there's SNOW at christmas and the world is pretty at christmas and i get to watch the muppets christmas carol movie. and i get to sing unabashedly to bad songs by brenda lee and n*sync at christmas and "blue christmas" by bright eyes is the only good bright eyes song. ever. conor oberst should only sing sad christmas songs.

and making cookies in silly shapes is allowed at christmas and its the only time where i'm ever allowed to act like a kid, but even still people make fun of me because i love it so much and i like carols. how can you mock someone for loving christmas?

i used to not be a christmas person. i used to think it was an american holiday prompted and sustained by capitalistic bastards and greeting card companies. and, well, "christmas in july" on QVC makes me want to vom. but the real deal, when celebrated genuinely, is just... humanity at its best. charity and enjoying friends and showing people that you care about them just because you're both alive.

i need a good "charlie brown christmas" with that sad pathetic tree. i feel like that tree right now. and no amount of decoration is going to make me stand upright again. not even a security blanket.

and i don't care if this is a lame metaphor or segue into the unhappiness and sheer un-christmasyness that is my life. my life is totally... valentines day when you're 15. a lotta angst and watching the boy you like make out with that slutty girl in geometry., or, in my case, watch the boy you like be a jehovah's witness and not even celebrate valentine's day. not even with russel stover chocolates from CVS.
