[By now, it's obvious that an experiment is happening. The village has already settled into a rush of chaos and noise as people wake to find themselves somehow altered in some way or another. Generally, Robin makes it his business to investigate these sorts of things. It's just that there's a bigger issue demanding much more of his concern at ( Read more... )

[Yes, well, experiment or not and warning or not, Katara's on her way to visit her friends in the north of the village. So far - so far - she's been unaffected.

So she'll just be going towards the bridge now.]

[Man, not Katara. He doesn't want to have to be grumpy at her. Robin likes her!
Sob. If it was fun they wouldn't call it "work".]

Bridges are off-limits, Katara. You can bend the river enough for dry passage otherwise, right?

[And suddenly appearing Robins! From... under the bridge. Huh.]

Sure I can. But why are the bridges off limits?

Because they're mine. [And there is absolutely nothing wrong with this logic in the slightest. Obviously.] I've been working on a few ways to keep people off of them, but there hasn't been enough time to get a decent system going yet.

[...

Katara can already tell that this is going to be a fun conversation.]

But not everybody can bend the water in order to get across. And not everyone can swim either. Are you trying to trap people where they are?

[...Yeah, and?]

Of course I'm not trying to trap anyone. They just have no business being on my bridges. They'll wear out if everyone keeps walking all over them.

[She is going to try logic.]

The buildings and bridges here restore themselves, Robin. They're not going to wear out.

[It's not very effective...]

You can't know that for sure. I have to stay here and take care of them. It's the only realistic option.

[She tries alternative options!]

So then why don't you test it by letting people walk across it? If the bridges wear out then I'll help you repair them.

[That concept makes sense! And due to that, it's terribly difficult to brain at all.]

...But then I'd have to let someone walk on my bridge. [He's fully aware that it shouldn't be this hard to understand. Robin's amazing at understanding things. Something is very wrong.]

...and why is that a problem?

[This would make so much more sense for her if there was a concept of 'trolls' in her world.]

Why wouldn't that be a problem?

[Robin would stop to explain it to her if self-awareness was a thing for him right now.]

[This is the part where she mentally facepalms.]

Because it would just be to test and see if I'm right - that the bridge won't wear out. And you'd be helping people get to their destination!

[And helping people is a Good Thing, right?]

[It would be if it wasn't such a damn conflict of interests. There's some legitimate hesitation.]

... Of course I want to help people. Just. .. Not here. [Something is very wrong about this entire conversation.]
