SUBJECT:Robin and Starfire
THEMES IN BATCH: ALL.
THEMES COMPLETED: 30/30

So I just read over the rules again and realized 3 WAS the limit per post... I'm so sorry I totally forgot the rule. And now I just realized I'm supposed to post them all in one post when I'm done, so here are all of them. Sorry, again. :]

Dead

Sure, he remembered why she was gone. And he wasn’t delirious when people caught him laughing to himself. No, he wasn’t delirious. He just knew the facts, even when people exaggerated and covered the truth with some funeral story.

Yeah, he really wanted to run a hand through her silky red hair again, but he wasn’t crazy. He knew things other people didn’t. He wasn’t losing it. They were.

Everytime he passed a door and someone was crying inside his or her room because he or she missed the girl, he laughed.

Because she wasn’t dead, she was just gone.

Alive

He was jealous. And that was stupid- because he didn’t do jealousy. Really.

She was happy. All the time. That bothered him- but in a I-hate-you-because-you’re-so-perfect kind of way.

So today was pretty weird. She kept dancing while he kept reading. And she kept laughing while he kept groaning. And she kept saying happy things while he kept muttering things like “I hate you, Slade”. So yeah, it was weird.

And the entire time, he knew he was jealous. Because he was hate and she was love. She was just simply happy to be alive. And maybe he wasn’t.

Ring

“Someday you’ll have to get over them, Robin,” Beast Boy grinned.

Robin replied steadily, “I’m not getting a nose ring.”

Beast Boy shrugged. “Sooner or later, you might want to.”

“I don’t think so.”

In a sing-song voice, he said, “Eventually.”

“Cut it out, Beast-” Robin stopped.

She had drilled more than five holes in each of her ears, and one hung from her left nostril, and two were embedded in her bottom lip. And there were probably more, but he didn’t want to find out.

“Do I look… nice, Robin?” she asked uncertainly.

Beast Boy laughed.

But Robin fainted.

Rain

Stainless glass provided clear view into the streets. A bookstore across the street was closing. She could see a mound of dark blue hurrying down the curb. And maybe a green mouse scurrying down the city drain. Seconds passed and a car imprinted with cybernetic scars sped by. Then all was silent and she could hear screams. And he wasn’t here. He wasn’t here.

“Ma’am, is the rest of your party coming soon?”

“No,” she whispered.

“Would you like to order anyway?”

One more glance. “I think I shall be leaving,” she replied absently, and stood. The glass was stained.

Rose

“It is red,” she stated almost disbelievingly. She fingered the delicate petals and brought the rose close to her nose, breathing in slowly.

“Yeah” was all he could say, almost breathlessly. “Do you like it?”

She glanced at him, then looked away. Silently, she shook her head, lowering the gift as tears brimmed her eyes.

The corners of his mask sank. “What? Why not?”

“Does it not mean ‘love’?”

“Yeah,” he nodded hesitantly.

“Then you are lying.”

He only stared. But she did not. Grabbing his hand, she placed the rose in his grasp and walked away. It meant nothing.

Movie

The credits rolled down the screen and Robin had to plug his ears as really bad imitations of the Titans tried to sing the theme song that those lame imitations came up with.

He glanced at Starfire and almost expected her to join in with the song. He could almost hear her screech, “Teen Titans, GO!”

But she only stared at him uncertainly, almost shyly.

And he swallowed.

She wanted to do what those lame imitations did towards the end. The imitation might have changed his mind to be more than just heroes, but he didn’t know if he had.

Book

Robin figured he was scared to find out what she had given him- because if he didn’t react the right way, then she would be hurt. But if he overdid it, then she’d be turned off. And the others were watching too. Perfect.

Unwrapping the gift, he pulled out an average-sized book and turned it over so that he could see the cover and then he blanked out. “Kissing for Dummies?!” He nearly screamed. “Starfire, what is this?!”

“I thought that you might need some help in… kissing.”

“What makes you think that?!”

“I cannot speak with the contractions.”

Sleep

“Raven and I decided it’s time to move on, Star. And you probably don’t like it, but there really isn’t anything you can do about it.” He stroked her cold cheek and bit his lip, fighting back a sort of emotion that he couldn’t describe. It was hatred, and it was love. And it was a bunch of things that he couldn’t sort out, but he didn’t want to.

“I love her, Star,” he said stiffly. Maybe he was crazy, but he didn’t care. He could say those things, because she was asleep. And she wasn’t going to wake up.

Holiday

“How come you guys can have your little holidays everyday without actually taking a real vacation?!” Beast Boy complained, turning away in disgust when Robin and Starfire leaned in for a kiss- just to torment the boy.

Starfire only giggled, taking Robin’s hand in hers. And Robin squeezed back, and then smirked at Beast Boy.

“That’s totally not funny,” Beast Boy whined, crossing his arms.

After pressing a brief kiss against Starfire’s cheek, Robin turned back to Beast Boy. “You want a holiday?”

Beast Boy nodded eagerly, a blank expression on his face.

“Then get together with Raven.”

“Never mind.”

Beach

He saw her. He saw her everyday. She rose with him and she walked with him. He didn’t know if she was real or not. He didn’t know the difference anymore. But she was going to return someday.

A tall, elegant figure against the setting sun, and a walk along the beach. Just imagining things did his head good. But maybe someday he’d find out she wasn’t real, and then he’d take an endless swim under the salty sea.

It was coming soon- he found himself dreaming, seeing her walk upon the waves, and she’d only set with the sun.

Hate

It scared her. Sometimes at night, she’d find herself thinking things- things she wouldn’t usually think. After a long, stormy night, something came over her. And it wasn’t natural. It wasn’t. Not for her.

And after staring at the dark for so long, she decided she was bad. Really bad. Because she mustn’t think these things. She mustn’t.

Things done to her- things that haunt her. She never thought she’d say it- but he brought those things back, and made them more vivid- and she knew she’d have to say it sometime. Because she’d see him again. Tomorrow.

“I hate you.”

Cold

“No,” he replied hoarsely. He was tired of answering her- of hearing her.

Her face fell. “But…” she let her eyes do the pleading. “We… kissed. We…” her voice became stronger, more definite of what she was saying. “We made the lip contact! We did!”

“Nothing happened, Star,” he said with a cold stare before turning away.

She grabbed his hand. “You love me, Robin! And for whatever reason you deny it so, you do,” she cried indignantly, and her voice became a whisper, “You do.”

“I…” his face almost softened with regret, but no. Not now. “I don’t.”

Music

They say it doesn’t matter what you sound like. That God doesn’t care whether you sound like Amy Lee or a dying cat. Robin didn’t know if he believed that or not, but he hoped it was true. It wasn’t that she sounded bad. She just didn’t sound good.

“’Oh, the wonderful cross!’” she belted out with a screech. Let’s just say it sounded nothing like music.

Twisting a finger in his ear, Robin scrunched his nose, “Uh, Star? First of all, that’s a hymn, and second, you’re… really off key.”

“And?” she stared at him.

He sighed. “Never mind.”

Picture

He ran a hand down the front of the mask, tracing a finger along the blood red design of an X, perforating his trickling thoughts and saying, “This is right.”

He slipped the mask over his head, but he took his time, breathing in the odor of sweat and blood- a hard day’s work and a long night’s past.

Feeling for the cape that clung to his rear, he pumped a fist at the cloth, making sure it hung freely in the thick air.

And a picture of the girl on the table’s corner. Well, she wasn’t in it anymore.

Sky

She could tell he wasn’t happy, but she couldn’t tell why. And of course, he wouldn’t tell her. Snuggling into the grass, she folded her arms behind her head and sighed. But it wasn’t a happy sigh. Not anymore.

She allowed herself a glimpse of Robin’s back. That was all she could see. A defiant shoulder that shut her out of his personal life and said, “Don’t ask.” He didn’t even bother to lie in the grass with her.

And he’d only mutter, “Open up the friggin’ sky and show Yourself already.”

She didn’t know who he was talking to.

Animal

Each time it made the slightest movement, she clung tighter to him. Soon, she had to bury her face in his shoulder and squeeze her eyes shut. He fought the urge to push her away and make her feel like a child.

“It has stopped,” she breathed, opening her eyes to peek at the tiny animal.

He swallowed. “Yeah.”

“Is it… dead?” she asked, keeping her eyes on the lifeless chick, its head flung to the side like a rubber toy.

“Yeah.” He nodded. Some things do matter to the world, when they leave it behind.

Some more than others.

Blue

“Please,” she begged, a smile playing on her newly lip-glossed lips.

He took both her hands in his and kissed them briefly. “Just a little longer, Star.”

She stuck her bottom lip out, trying to copy the puppy-dog face Beast Boy often gave her. She attempted to bat her eyelashes, but it obviously had no effect as Robin chuckled. “Trust me, Star, it’ll be more… romantic if we wait.”

She tightened her pout. “But I wish to see your eyes now. At least tell me their color.”

He smiled at the flash in her eyes and gave in. “Blue.”

Love

We say to those who are in love
It can’t be true ‘cause we’re too young
I know that’s true because
So long I was
So in love with you

So I thought

A year goes by
And I can’t talk about it…

Pause and silence. Footsteps down the hall and she bit her lip. They would talk. And when she stopped, she held her breath for the very moment he would get up and open the door and she would see his face and he would see hers and then everything would-

Whoosh!

Inhale. “Robin, we need to talk.”

Emotion

It always hurt her when he’d turn away. Every time he’d return her gaze with a stern fix of masked eyes. Every time it happened, she was never quiet about the emotion that would have done better if it had been caught in her throat.

But the other girl didn’t try. Not even. Yet she was captivating to him and only she didn’t know why.

But Starfire had wanted ignorance, but it was never in her favor. And now she knew it and craved it- to be devoid of emotion like the other girl was. And she would pursue it.

Stars

“They are truly wonderful,” she breathed and leaned forward, hugging herself.

“Yeah,” he could only say. He wasn’t one to be sappy, but he felt the line nabbing at his tongue. But those stars could never match up to the Star sitting next to me.

She seemed hypnotized by the stars that Robin was only happy she didn’t have to see him blushing profusely at what was going on his heart. But he couldn’t be corny. That would be a mistake.

He cleared his throat. “The fireworks are starting soon. Want to stay longer?” Say yes.

She smiled. “Most surely.”

Angel

“Where are the ‘angels’?” Starfire inquired, her head bobbing left and right in search of the supernatural beings. She swung around a light post at the corner of the street.

“Not this time of year, Starfire,” Raven said, a lifted eyebrow showing her critique.

“Yet the billboard across the street states it,” Starfire replied with a smile and whirled around to point at it.

“People lie,” Raven answered as she flew above the passing cars and crossed the interstate.

Starfire followed with a frown. “Robin says angels do not exist; the billboard does. Robin never does the lying, correct?”

“…Sure.”

Luck

"She's so lucky, she's a star
But she cry, cry, cries in her lonely heart, thinking
If there's nothing missing in my life
Then why do these tears come at night?"

“Why is she unhappy?”

Raven moaned and looked up from her book. “What?”

Starfire twisted a curly strand of hair around her forefinger. “The girl in the song. Why is she unhappy?”

“Who knows.”

“Do you?”

Raven rolled her eyes. “No.”

“Could it be that she does not have the ‘boyfriend’?”

“She has it all, Starfire.”

“Yet she does not,” the redhead sighed. “It seems I am like her.”

Snow

“Why can it not be just peaceful?” Starfire asked, letting the palm of her hand slide down the snow-covered glass.

“Because we’re heroes, Starfire. We can’t mistake something as ‘peaceful’ when there’s more going on behind the weather.” Robin moved from the window and headed for the evidence room.

“But you always think of work, Robin,” she said quietly, floating down the steps to walk behind him.

“That’s all we can afford to think about.”

“Really?” she asked softly and placed a hand on his shoulder. She felt his shoulders tense and he didn’t answer. He didn’t have to.

Forever

“We’ll all be friends forever. I promise.”

Everyday, he could swear that he heard her scraping at the fabric of time, begging to return.

He was afraid that maybe this... this was all that was left of now. Because if she wasn’t here, then she was there; and if here wasn’t good, in the future, there couldn’t be good either.

And who knew where she was? He certainly didn’t. And he was used to having all the answers- that’s why he promised her what she wanted to hear. Because he couldn’t be proven wrong.

But forever had broken that rule.

Blossom

“It’s not a big deal, Starfire,” Raven said as they passed the cherry blossoms in the park.

“But you said you would tell me what I am feeling towards Robin by interpreting my dreams, and yet I have none,” Starfire argued quietly, stopping to pick a blossom.

Raven sighed. “Your brain must have some sort of activity at night.”

Starfire nodded. “Yes. I said I do not get the dreams, but I do get the nightmares.”

Raven frowned. “About what?”

“Robin,” Starfire chirped. “This is a good thing, yes? This means that I think about him often?”

Raven walked ahead.

Fight

“You let him go!”

I did not answer.

“Answer me, Star!”

I squeezed my eyes shut, thinking that perhaps I ought to hide. “I-I… did not mean to, R-Robin…” But I probably did.

“Then why did you let him run past you?!”

I only care for you. “I… do not know.”

He flung my arm down and I slipped on the wet grass. And then I wiped the mud from my face. I stuttered, “I only did it because… I believed you needed a… break.”

“From what?”

“Fighting,” I whispered sadly, and then I sobbed, “But we are now fighting!”

a) Veil

She crawled silently into the room from the vent in the wall. As to why she had stooped so low, she could only define with almost paranoid determination to lift the black veil from his face and discover what he was hiding.

Quietly sliding over to the foot of the bed, her eyes peeped over the top of the bed, trying to discern the typed message on the laptop screen in his lap.

I’m supposed to take Star out to dinner tomorrow, Terra, but I think we can do something right after I drop her off…

Starfire gasped.

Robin turned around.

b) Fish

He opened and closed his mouth like a stupid fish gasping for air, so he did not speak. Yet that was fine because she wanted the first words. “How could you?” she whispered, not yet decided whether she was more angry than devastated.

As if he had finally been dropped back into the water, he cleared his throat. “Why are you spying on me?”

She wrung her hand. “I do not… I had every right to!”

“So you didn’t trust me?” he suggested and he shut the laptop so they were left in darkness save the glow of green eyes.

c) Time

She knew they were glowing, and she felt a bit guilty for getting so angry when she lit the dark with her eyes. But that was stupid. He cheated on her.

“No,” she replied indignantly, not giving him the satisfaction of sadness in her voice.

“Then you’re the one at fault,” he said simply, standing to rise above her.

She saw the ignorance on his face and knew… maybe… all this time… he had never loved her.

Her eyes grew dim and she dropped her head against the bed, and couldn’t see him anymore. “No, we are both at fault.

d) End

He hated wet shoes. But another car drove by anyways and sent mud flying towards him. He decided that the world hated him-

“I thought you’re supposed to be with her first?” Terra asked as she walked up, her hand lifted and glowing yellow as she stopped the mud mid-flight and pushed it away from Robin before he was hit.

-except for her. And he was wondering if that was really a good thing. He let her take his hand and he stared at their entwined gloves.

But he missed her. And he didn’t think it would end this way.
