So I finally got to attend my first reptile show today. I looked for years, but they were always too far away. Someone finally decided to have one close to me, like just 1 1/2 hour drive away. It was awesome!!!! People walking around with bearded dragons, snakes, and sugar gliders on their shoulders. Very cool. I ended up buying three snakes

I got two sand boas, one regular (orange with black spots) and one anerythristic (no red pigment so gray with black spots). I can use them for genetics as well as reptiles. They don't get very big and are very gentile. I also got a Miami phase corn snake just because I think they are pretty.
Sugar gliders are the marsupial version of flying squirrels. They don't get very big (adult easily fits in palm of your hand) and they are so sweet and cute. They bond with their caregiver and will pretty much cling to you. My daughter has wanted one since a kid brought hers to class several years ago and I have resisted. But a couple had them at one of the booths and I have to admit to falling in love with them pretty quickly. They each had a big pocket on the front of their shirt and their gliders crawled in and out of the pouch, perched on their shoulder, peeked over the edge, etc. The man would go half way down the aisle and kind of pitch one and it would glide to the wife and land in her hand. Talk about getting kids interested in learning. I've got the mammal chapter in the bag - or maybe the pouch.
And we gave the tables with containers of tarantulas and scorpions a wide berth. Even though retiles were the main thing at the show, obviously they had a few other things too.

I don't know why I was reminded when I read of the gliders of
'busy babies' that I saw when I was at a game reserve in South Africa.
They came out at night......and were very timid
First time when we were on the veranda after dinner with our tracker and suddenly something skidded by very quickly very near to where we were seated. Our tracker said very quickly:
"Bush baby" and then described what it was....
The next night I was able to see the little guy:
So entirely cute.....
