J - Jinger

A while back I caught a show on Discovery Health about the Duggar family. They have 17 children to date, all with names beginning with J (Joshua, Jana & John-David (twins), Jill, Jessa, Jinger (pronounced like Ginger), Joseph, Josiah, Joy-Anna, Jedidiah & Jeremiah (twins), Jason, James, Justin, Jackson, Johannah and Jennifer).  The average age between the kids is 18 months, and since Jennifer was born in August I suspect there will be a number 18 announced before much longer.

The Duggars have caught a lot of flack from people, being called everything from crazy to cultish. People also make a lot of judgments about them, and while I suppose it's only fair to say that they've brought all the attention on themselves, I don't think it's fair that so much of the attention is negative. So I thought I'd point out some positive things ;)

Understandably, the Duggars grew out of the house they were living in. Like any other family with some pretty unusual needs, they decided to build a home tailored to them. Unlike almost any other family in that situation, they did so without debt. Granted, I'm sure some of the money came from the Discovery Channel, but they put in quite a bit of sweat equity too.

Their kids definitely seem a bit straight-laced, but it's also obvious that they're good kids who love each other, too. They're intelligent, kind, responsible kids...in a world where that's getting more and more rare.

Kudos to Michelle, the mom, for obviously having figured out how to have sex with an infant in the house. I know some of you understand EXACTLY how difficult this can be...right up there with air traffic control, as far as I'm concerned. "Baby flight 001 you've landed on runway BED and are cleared to taxi off to dreamland. Husband flight 069 you are cleared for approach."

But I have to say, there is one thing that bothers me about the Duggar family.  Are there not enough J names to chose from that you have to name one kid "Jinger"???
