Mexico, the last few days

This trip has been amazing for me. I have learned SO MUCH!  About myself, and especially about Gama.  There is so much you learn about someone by getting to know their family, and I have learned that Gama is even more awesome than I thought!! I love that man so much.  So many of his little quirks and habits were explained while being here.  For example, why he likes to keep his shoes on all the time, and why he always tries to pop my zits.  I also learned that he is most definitely not a spy. That discovery was a big relief. ;)
It's been pretty interesting for me being in a place where hardly anyone speaks my language.  At the beginning of our trip I was terrified of talking to anyone because I was positive I was making a fool of myself.  As the days went on, I found it easier and easier to at least try to speak to people.  And finally today I had a full conversation with Gama's dad! Or at least, the conversation took the same amount of time as a real conversation because I would take so long to say anything. :P  But I'm still proud.  I hope that one day I will really be able to speak this language.  This trip has given me a glimpse of actually fulfilling that goal.  I never thought I really could learn another language, but this past month has shown me that I can! And I will!! because I don't want my kids talking any secret languages behind my back...

So anyways.. these last few days.  We went to Teotihuacan on Wednesday.  Teotihuacan is an ancient city with HUGE pyramids, and small pyramids, and medium pyramids, and a bunch of other old rock structures everywhere.  The place is huge. I would post some pictures, but the internet here is real slow, and it just takes forever to upload anything... maybe I'll update this when I get home. :) But ya... It took a good 30 minutes to walk from one end of the city to the other.
There were two really big pyramids there, one for the moon, and one for the sun.  We hiked up the sun pyramid and died at the top.  It was soooo big! And the stairs were really steep.  I had to climb up them with my arms like some kind of animal! Coming back down was reaaally scary too.. it made me wonder if anyone has died falling down that thing.  I googled it, but didn't find anything. :P Apparently they built it that way so people would have to walk down it sideways so they never showed their back to the Gods.  I guess the Gods are on the top?
There was another pyramid there that was medium sized, called the Quetzalcoatl temple.  A lot of Book of Mormon scholars think this temple is the one that Jesus came to when he visited the America's. John Taylor said, ""The story of the life of the Mexican divinity, Quetzalcoatl, closely resembles that of the Savior; so closely, indeed, that we can come to no other conclusion than that Quetzalcoatl and Christ are the same being." It was an interesting feeling I had walking up those stairs thinking that Christ might have walked there. Really cool.

For the rest of our time here in mexico, we ate. :) Every morning we went out and had barbacoa, or carnitas, or gorditas... whatever we felt like.  For lunch Gama's mom would make us extremely yummy food, and for dinner we would go out for tacos. As I mentioned before, me and Gama are now fat, and we are definitely going on a diet when we get home.

I have mixed feelings going home tomorrow.  I have had so much fun here, and I absolutely love the culture. I also have loved seeing Gama so happy.  I am so lucky to have someone like him, that would sacrifice his home and family to be with me.  And I am so grateful to have such a wonderful family in law that would give me their son and brother when I live so far away.

I love them all!  Y yo queiro Mexico!!

mexico, gama
