Day 1

Apr 29, 2011 20:13

We got to the airport and got through security and checking and all that within 15 minutes, which left us with about an hour and a half left of waiting around. When Gama gets bored, Gama gets hungry. So, after trying to convince him we should wait because we just had breakfast(with no luck), we went and ate some pizza. It was yummy, and I was VERY full. We finally got on the plane. We were walking through 1st class and saw two seats that were empty, and I turned to Gama and said, "too bad they didn't give these seats to us." Then gama looked at the tickets, and then looked at the seat numbers, then back to the tickets and said, "They did give them to us!!" We got first class!! Oh ya!! So we settled in, and immediately an attendant came and asked if we'd like some champagne. We said, no, and then asked for juice. haha. We got it in little wine glasses. :) We then had a very relaxing, and smooth flight, including an entire meal of pasta, salad, roll, and cheesecake. Gama was in heaven!! I loved it, but wished we hadn't eaten that pizza before hand. We finally landed and met Gama's dad. It was so great to see him looking over all the heads for us and then get all teary eyed when he spotted Gama. We wondered around the airport for about an hour trying to figure out how to get back to the subway. That airport is HUGE!! We rode the subway for about 30 minutes, then got on a bus that took us the rest of the way home. About 2 more hours. I was soooo tired, but I couldn't stop looking out the window at this world that Gama had grown up in. It was sooooo different! So many people, and broken houses, and honking cars, and little shops filling up the side of every street. I couldn't keep my eyes open, and I couldn't close them either. My brain was not working very well for sure. I felt like a wide eyed zombie. Anyways... As we got closer to Gama's house, people started yelling at us as we drove by. "OY! Gama!! OY! OY!" Gama was waving and yelling back like a celebrity, or war hero returning home. He loved it. haha. We finally pulled up to the cutest house and Gama's mom looked down over the side of the railing at us, and then we all had a lovely reunion. hehe. She had food waiting for us, and I was still sooo full. I ate it all up though because it was so delicious. She made pork, sautéed onions and spinach stuff, and refried beans to put onto tortillas. Everything is eaten with tortillas. :) And then they offered me a fresh mango, and papaya. I had never eaten a papaya, and I have to say, I didn't like it very much. haha. But it was very yummy with yogurt the next morning. We all sat around the rest of the night and talked as people kept coming in from around the neighborhood to say hello to Gama and me. I was pretty much useless in the conversation since it was all in spanish, but Gama's dad kept me company by showing me all his coins, and art. I appreciated that very much. Well, that is the update of the first day...

Today has been really nice too. We woke up and left for the market to get groceries and eat some food. I had to check every single item they gave me for worms, bugs, and ant eggs, because apparently they like to eat those. Gama told me he was going to try and sneak me some. I will NOT eat bugs!! eck. After we just came home. So for the rest of the day I have been between taking naps, and reading harry potter 7. It has been wonderful. haha. :) Gama's mom made us mole for dinner, and that was yummy. I like other mexican foods better, but it was still super good.

mexico, gama
