It was the terrifying prospect of PEOPLE BUYING LESS STUFF THAN THEY HAD BEFORE. How much less stuff? Have sales collapsed to half of what they were? Crashed to a nerve-shattering third? Well no, they're down by about 10%. People are buying almost 10% less DIY and electrical items than they were last year.
Rather scary for the people who work for these shops, but really, I think
this is high street horror, and even
this (not that anyone really needs linking to those stories). Electrical sales falling to 90% of the level they were last year? It's not setting my heart jumping.
