In 1993 I met my friend Eve. He was only about a month older than me, but he had his own place (a second floor of a duplex over on Meadow), a KID (not really a kid any more), a GIRLFRIEND (mother of said child, they're not together any more), and his own 4-track. He made a ton of home recordings, and later formed a band called
Sistersound. The bass player died of cancer, and the drummer (my dear friend Ian Kruske) killed himself a few years later. So I am not the only one out there with a death curse. The replacement drummer is now in a band called Hex Machine. A year or so after I met him, Eve said he was doing some side project called Sleestack that was going to be some sort of punk rock/hardcore band. Later, they changed their name to Action Patrol and everyone (even some of you {and even some of me}) loved them.
Anyway, I remember hearing one of his songs entitled Bluebear. A friend of his named Kate Davis wrote the lyrics.
Bluebear stares one eye at me
Accusingly
His leg is torn
I've loved too much
I've loved too hard
His button eye looks down at me
Accusingly
His skin is worn
I've loved too much
I've loved too hard
We danced and romped a thousand dances
He's taken tea abusively
I liked the song and decided that one day when I had a drum set (and the ability to play it) and a 4-track I'd learn how to play it and make my own recording of it. So that's what I
did.
