Summary: Cloud and Sephiroth meet for the first time.

If Zack hadn’t been there, seen it with his own eyes, he wouldn’t have believed it.
Cloud sat beside him on Zack’s generous bed, humming along to Zack’s chatter, his attention mostly focused on Zack’s Buster sword. Since befriending Cloud, Zack rarely had to worry about his blade: Cloud proved more than happy to keep it sharp and clean.
Until he abruptly froze, rag still on the blade. His whipcord body tensed like an animal scenting a predator.
Zack paused in his description of the President in drag. He only managed “Cloud?” before a knock on the door silenced him. Cloud stared intently at the door, eyes too bright in a way Zack hoped Hojo would never discover.
The door opened before Zack could answer. Sephiroth didn’t look at Zack, just stared at Cloud like he had already known the blond was going to be there. Cloud stared silently back. The electricity in the room made Zack shiver.
Zack had imagined these two meeting for months now. He imagined Cloud’s stuttering awe, Sephiroth’s caution. He had expected a charge, two souls recognizing themselves in the other.
He had never expected lightning.
Cloud broke first, the sword dropping from his hands. The clang of it falling on the floor shattered the moment like hot water hitting ice. Then came the diverted eyes, the soft words.
But the intensity in their eyes never faded in those rare moments they made eye contact.
When Zack had first met Aeris, first kissed her and felt that charge electrify his senses, learned of her secret past, he had wondered if he was in over his head.
In that room, feeling vulnerable and mortal for the first time since become a SOLDIER 1st Class, Zack wondered again.
