I'll be honest: when it comes to humanity, I'm an incredibly negative person.
Every now and then I'll make the mistake of reading the news. I really should know better, after all. The news doesn't keep you informed: it keeps society's bloodthirst satiated. It's like people slowing down when driving past a carwreck, looking at the bloodied bodies. That's what the news is. Every now and then, they present something you should actually know and twist it to fit their audience of the day.
So I made the mistake of reading the news and all I saw were celebrities, celebrities, celebrities, because we all know it's money that rules the world, and by pretending to be someone else (and flashing your tits/ass), you pull in the money. Instead of discussing the war being fought and the lives being lost, we're discussing what that fucking Patterson punk does to relax.
And then, of course, you have the news on TV. The world got to watch as supposedly a young boy floated away in a balloon, only to be found safe and sound in his attic. Everyone at work stopped what they were doing to surround the TV in open-mouthed awe, hunger gleaming in their eyes. Some made the usual perfunctory remarks about how oh, they hoped everyone was safe, but then they fell back into gossiping about how the brother was probably responsible. I can't even call them scavengers because at least scavengers have a good place in the life cycle. Humans watching the news like this, hungry for blood, remind me of when animals are slaughtered, body parts feeding nothing and no one, fur warming no one.
And then of course, I hear people talking. "Pray for me, because I made a bad mistake." "Oh, I'll pray for you." If you believe in the power of prayer, please, stop reading. How many people pray instead of actively doing something? Two hands doing something are better than a hundred clasped in prayer. And let's not forget that those same people praying for you are gossiping behind your back. The moment you leave the room...bam. The whispers start, eyes sparkling, giggles quickly being hushed.
And let's not forget the other comments: "What is this world coming to?" That's human nature, sweetheart. As a race, we are scum. Some individuals are great, but overall, we're scum. There has been no evolution in thought or compassion or inner strength, just an evolution in our toys: they've gotten bigger, more complex, and more deadly. I hear so many saying God must exist due to the perfection of the human species, Intelligent Design, etc. etc. etc. I've seen no such perfection, physically, mentally, spiritually, or emotionally. Humans may have bigger toys, but at least animals rarely kill each other for sport. Even cats, when playing with rodents, are training for when they may need those skills for their own survival. Humans? We kill and collect the fucking heads of the dead while leaving the bodies to rot.
People argue that humans are capable of such great things. However, we're more capable of far more destructive things, more hateful things. People say that God exists due to Mozart's music and that the Devil exists with Hitler as his proof. In the end, what does Mozart's music mean? Nothing. Beautiful for now but in the end it's not even dust in the wind. Hitler? Look around. There's that level of atrocity occurring every day. It's what happens when Man truly Believes.
There's certain individuals I love, but humanity as a whole? No one will ever convince me we're anything but trash.
