MattMo Round Robin Fic Time!

Dec 14, 2007 21:33

It's the weekend and it's time for another round of round-robin ficcing! This fic is inspired by my dad's HELLISH 7-hour commute from Boston, MA to Newton, MA (a 10-minute drive) in the snowstorm.

His frostbitten fingers were desperately fumbling for the right key when he heard footsteps behind him coming out the stairway. He didn't look up, didn't really care until the voice said way-too-cheerily, "Hello!"

Matt looked out of the corner of his eye to see one of the college kids who rented the apartment three doors down. Amber or something? He pretended that he didn't hear her, kept focusing on the lock, but she spoke again. "Crazy weather we're having, huh?" she asked.

Matt still didn't look up. "Yeah, crazy," he said non-comittally.

"Is Molly enjoying the snow?" she chirped. "Last time Mohinder had me watch her, she told me that she grew up in California."

"She likes it fine," Matt mumbled as he finally slid the right key into the lock.

And then he heard: Fine, fairy. Be a jerk. I wonder when social services is going to find a real home for that poor kid.

And that was just all too much. Matt spun around and faced her. "You know what?" he asked. "I

Whoops! I forgot to hit claim before I started typing. Oh, well. I'll hop in on the next round. The world will have to wait for Mohinder in technicolor pajama bottoms.

Matt looked at Amber curiously. "So, Amber, how would you like some hot chocolate or something?"

Mohinder looked at Matt, perplexed. What are you doing?

I'm trying to be friendly. When was the last time we actually had a conversation with any of our neighbors?

Before you moved in. She was sent by the Company to spy on me. And then she died.

Matt wasn't going to let Mohinder win on this one. It's pathetic to lose to a guy in hot pink boxers, after all. "Or we have tea, if you want it. An entire cabinet of tea," Matt said to Amber.

She looked back and forth between the two of them. "That sounds

Mohinder has this obsession with scents. You know, perfumes and stuff. I know that sounds, erm..."

Totally gay?

"A bit weird," Matt said louder than he intended to. "But he used to burn incense all the time until we realized it was irritating Molly's eyes. So sometimes he'll just brew a pot of tea and not even drink it, just leave it there so the whole place ends up smelling like vanilla or lavender or whatever he's in the mood for."

"Hm," Amber said, cocking her head to the side. "That's actually kind of clever. Cheaper than those air fresheners."

"That's how you can tell it's his idea," Matt grinned. "He's the brains of the outfit, I just do the grunt work." He finished filling the kettle and put it on the burner.

Amber, meanwhile, had wandered over to the refrigerator. Next to a few of Molly's (post-nightmare-man) drawings, there were some photos she hadn't seen before. "Hey, that's really cute," she said, pointing to one.

"Oh, that?" Matt smiled. "That's from when we

Our bff-ship is good times. As far as personality types go, he's definitely the Mohinder to my Matt.

"Oh, that?" Matt smiled. "That's from when we went to the beach. Do you remember that day Mohinder? “he asked, turning to smile at Mohinder.

"I remember a certain someone refused to put on sunblock and spent the whole ride home grumbling about his sore back,” Mohinder replied.

"Hey,” Matt said holding his hands up defensively, "I’m a child of California, that was the first time I burned since 1986. "

"1986? You’re kidding me? “Amber said in disbelief.

"Nope, but I guess it’s just a lesson learned, " Matt said shrugging his shoulders.

"So, uh…how long have you two been…uh..you know….together and all? " Amber asked nervously.

"That is a long story, " Mohinder began, " It all started…
