So I finally got a hold of "K" last night.
I called her at 10 PM'ish, and we were on the phone until aboot quarter to two AM.
"K" seems really down to earth.
The conversation started out with her basically saying she hates her job, and is all stressed out from work. Hmmmmm. that sounds familiar. :-)
She is an investment banker for Morgan Stanley on Wall Street. She got off of the 73rd floor of Tower 2 on 9/11. That event changed her life. She told me that she has "lots of money", but that it doesn't mean that much to her, and that she really needs a change, and really wants above all to be a mother.
She told me she thought I seemed down to earth, she thought I was funny, and a big little kid. She wants to meet real soon too.
SHe sems nice. SHe owns her own apartment near (I'm not going to say exactly where) the Metroplitan Museum of Art in NYC. SHe used to teach English. SHe just has to complete her dissertation and she'll have her PhD in English.
She loves to travel as well.
We are going to talk again soon.
I applied for a hardware test engineer job here at IBM today. I think this would be a good match. It's still the SP system... I'd just be testing the hardware instead of the software. I have a BSEE and electronic test experience, so we'll see. Truth be told, customers really want our hardware, not so much our software. So I think it would be a more "secure" job, as much as there is such a thing as security.
I apllied for a few jobs today on Monster.com, but they weren't too appealing.
My officemate is a contractor. He spoke to his boss, who comes by once a week, and his bosstold my officemate to contact him if I can't find anything soon. So things are looking a little better on the job front.
I'm realizing that today's employee needs to be a "mercenary". I'm realizing that the best plan is to keep your resume out there at ALL TIMES, and be ready to jump at opportunities. I probably should get a few certifications, such as my Java Developer Certification.
I spoke with IBM medical today. They pretty much came right out and said that my diabetes had NO EFFECT on my job. I countered that people don't go to work when they get a cold, sniffles, flu, because they can't be 100 %. SO why is it different with undiagnosed diabetes, when your qhole body chemistry is out of whack ? My doctor's office said they will try and write some kind of note saying that my condition DID affect my ability to give 100 %. They also said they would try and forward my labwork to IBM, demonstrating that my blood levels were "through the roof" as my doctor said to me when he diagnosed me.
I'm going to try and have a normal night tonight....
