I got a late start heading up to Rochester last Friday, and traffic was horrible. WHen are people going to learn that the left lane is the PASSING lane ??? 9 out of 10 people do not drive well.
With stops, it took a little over 5 hours to drive to Rochester. I realized that a lot of the anger I have been feeling lately is do to current events. This is not a political journal, so I'll leave things at that. But I got REALLY angry when I heard aboot the Enola Gay being restored, and the protests over that. There really is a culture war brewing in the U.S. I for one am sick of revisionist history designed to assauge the guilt that liberals feel aboot anything. I say put a video game next to the Enola Gay, so kids can do that bombing run again, and learn what it must have been like to put a merciful end to WWII.
I got to Rocehster aboot 7 PM. Man, TIm Horton's donuts were everywhere. Tim Horton's is the Dunkin Donuts of Canada. Are Canadians crab people trying to take over the U.S ???
I hung with Wade and his cousin and their wives till aboot midnight. I met up with Wade in Rochester; his cousin lives there. I left aboot 11:30 PM and drove around. I got lost momentarily, but then I ran with it, and I had my GPS. I wanted to see sights I had not seen in a while.
I drove through a cute little town with shops along the Erie Canal.
But I eventually found the Lyell Ave. Nick Tahou’s. And I was disappointed.
The Garbage Plate ™ is not what I remember it being. It is but a shadow of it’s former self. But I did see the Gates Police throw a black guy out, so at least the ambience of the old Nick Tahou’s found a new home.
I eventually rented a room at the Red Roof Inn near the thruway. I checked email via the laptop, then called Sveta. After a brief talk, it was 1:30 AM, and time for sleep.
The next morning Wade and I hung out and drove around. We went up to Lake Ontario, and saw a guy catch a HUGE friggin’ fish. Eventually
klausboop (Mike) showed up. We all went to Nick Tahou’s Downtown location. I had a plate, but again it wasn’t the same. I bought Mik’es first plate, but I don’t think he enjoyed it.
Off to House of Guitars. We got there early. Mike, Bryan, and Scott (of the Mike Keneally Band) greeted us. We hung out a bit. But then it was showtime.
But right before showtime, I had a “HOG” plate next door at Irondeqoit Hots. Let it be known that the HOG plate is like the Garbage Plate I remember from my college days. It is the superior plate. When in Rochester, visit the House of Guitars, and then treat yourself to a HOG plate.
The clinic was loose and fun. But I could not deal wiuth the narrow aisles we were forced to stand it, so I hung in the back. After the show, Scott asked me to be the merch person for aboot 5 minutes. I sold 3 CDs I think.
Eventaully, we all left, followed the band back to their hotel, and ten walked to Don Pablo’s for dinner. IT was a really good time. We talked aboot music, and Beller was trying to get me going with politics, but I didn’t really bite. I just don’t care to debate politics anymore. It was just a bunch of people getting together and enjoying each other’s company.
We all left around 11:30. I hung with Wade and Mike till aboot 12:30 PM. At that time I left. I was going to drive an hour or so to Syracuse, and then get a room. I ended up listening to Art Bell, and a REALLY bad explanation of quantum physics and Schroedinger’s Cat. Art Bell should have been interviewing me instead of the person with whom he was talking. But I got home at 6 AM, and slept…
But I think I passed the test. I'm still not able to be happy, but I'm down like I was a year ago at this time. So I guess that is a good thing.
