Some chappies from the Labour Party just came canvassing at me, for the council election and the general election. It went like this:
Them: Will you be voting Labour?
Me: I don't know anything about you yet, I haven't done the research. You sent my husband some bumph but not me.
Them: We have him down as a Labour supporter from last time, look at all his details on our not confidential at all sheet. Will you be voting for us?
Me: I don't know yet, I haven't done the research.
Them: Here is our leaflet. Also, this bloke here is one of your councillors, now you've met him you'll vote for him, won't you?
Councillor: Hi. Don't I look better in the photo than in real life?
Me: You look happier in the photo.
C: so you'll be voting for me?
Me: I don't know yet, I haven't done the research.
C.: Do you live in the basement? It was me who fixed things when all this got flooded a couple of years ago. Also, Labour are totally not going to win the council but we need a strong opposition because the Tories are a bunch of lying liars. Are you going to vote for me?
Me: Can you tell me what happened about (local shenanigans last year)?
C: It's all on my website. (long explanation to me of how to use a search engine). Vote for me?
Me: I don't know yet. What is your position on-
C: Leader of the opposition. Vote for me again.
Me: What is your position on the (proposed development that upset a lot of locals but actually I was in favour of it)?
C: I led the campaign to scrap that, you don't want anything like that. So you'll be voting for me?
Me: I don't know. I don't know anything about you yet.
C.: It's all on my website. (explains how to search it all over again).
Me: Yes, and I will look at it, but I haven't looked at it yet, or at your opponents', and when I have I shall try to weigh up whether you're all telling the truth about everything. Some people don't always. So I'm not going to say who I'm going to vote for until I know.
C: Yes, but you can vote for me. I haven't time to talk to you about issues, I have a lot of people to canvass tonight.
