Johnny's Entertainment & Kpop Fandom = In Comparison.

Aug 30, 2010 13:20

As I finished watching a bunch of Kpop goodness all night until the sun rises up.. I opened my JE folder out of randomness and watched my KAT-TUN & Kanjani8 files. Files that used to fill up 90% of my HD which has now been replaced by Super Junior files instead ( Read more... )

je: kanjani8, je: kat-tun, je: general, kpop: general, kpop: u-kiss, kpop: super junior

LOL. I like this.
All hail to Kimutaku and his what, 19 years old, monarchy? xD

JE doesn't care about overseas fans at all.
This. SFM. Why JE, WHY???? It's not only Je actually, it's Japan in general.

As for music shows, they used to have Hey! Hey! Hey! Music Champ back then, but the format of the show changed, although it might have changed back recently, I don't really know. I think there're also Music Lover, Music Jump, and Music Fighter? And there was Utaban, which was stopped recently T_T, and of course there is Shounen Club special for JE xD

However, I read the comments below, and I have several things to say (don't see this as an attack BB, because it's not :)):

First, I look at Jpop idols and Kpop idols differently. I consider Kpop idols as performers, while Jpop idols lean toward entertainers. Something that sadly, some Kpop fans never understand.

Second, I don't think Jpop idols work less than Kpop idols. They just specialized in different areas. While Kpop idols are demanded to be skillful in singing and dancing, I have high suspicion that Johnny's actually deliberately chose boys who couldn't sing or dance very well, therefore making them (1)unable to fly away from the company's grip, because they couldn't be used if they are not backed up by the company and (2)make them look more endearing and lovable. Though Johnny's never commented anything about this, Tsunku was known to be using this method when he picked the member of Morning Musume, and I suspect Johnny's is doing the same. After all, entertainment business in Japan is highly controlled by the agencies, not by the celebrities themselves.
So, although their singing and dancing are not as good as the Kpop idols, it doesn't mean they work less. There's even a quote saying that Jpop idols only got two hours sleep everyday, and it's usually on chair. Since my main fandom is Arashi, I know about them the best. When they just debuted, Nino and Ohno tried to run away because they are said to only get one hour sleep per day, and when Matsujun filmed Hanadan 1, his schedule was so tight he was reported to sleep only in car while went from one location to the next. But they have never complained about it, they will always put a big smile on their faces because they know the risk of their jobs, and they know what they were expected to do.
I don't really know the way Kpop idols work, but when you're a Johnny, you have to figured out everything yourself, even when they did a concert, they have to arrange everything themselves, like Yoko said in Recommen once, which probably explain the hideous costumes. These guys know nothing about fashion *fake cries* And when they got their first reality shows, they have to learn everything themselves as well, in fact Arashi asked for their first own reality shows, despite they only got the 1.00 AM timeslot, when no one watching.
Of course, similar with you, what I like about Jpop idol is, they could do everything. Variety shows, comedies (Gawd, I ship boke-tsukommi so hard.), radio shows, festive concerts, singing and dancing (well some of them xD), MC-ing and newscasting (some of them xD). They are all, after all, multi-taskers and I'd say their talents are often underestimated.

Third, when Kpop idols are often debuted flawless, Jpop idols grow up alongside us. Sneaky old man Johnny is a genius, he let us watched his boys grow up, from when they were still buck-toothed naive kid who was jumping around among gazillion of their friends until they debuted and has their own tv shows and held a concert in Tokyo dome, therefore, I believe, creating a tighter bond between fans and their idols. We would feel more happy when they were successful because we watched them when they were still nothing and how they climbed the steps one by one. I think it's a totally different approach from how kpop idols are marketed.

Fourth, what makes them interesting is, they know very well how others look down upon Johnny's idols. They knew they were considered uncool by many people and how they are often overlooked. I don't know what their reasons are for choosing to stay in Johnny's, but at least I know Nino's. He said it was more interesting because they are oppositions. Because they are often underestimated, it was more worth doing.

Well, this fact has changed recently, as they gained many new male fans, Toma acted in many films, and Japanese male lean more and more herbivorous xD

This SFM. I can still remember those awkward boys, dorking around and having so much fun.

I agree with you SFM. Just because JE idols doesn't sing or dance better doesn't mean they work less. They work just as much if not more to show all people that they DESERVE to be where they are. The boys needs more applause.

I think one other difference between Kpop and Jpop idols is that Jpop idols never show that they worked hard, I guess it's because of their culture as well? We know Japanese are crazy about working hard. They never show that they're tired, no matter what happen, and even when they are asked, they will answer it in a way which declared that it's nothing. That's one thing I really admire from them xD

Thanks for commenting bb! No worries about sharing your insights, I'm actually glad that nobody had left snarly comments yet 'cause idk, some people might misinterpret what I've said and may think that I'm putting JE down which will be impossible 'cause this journal knows how much I loved them and even though I'm not in the fandom anymore, I can never gain back half of my soul I sold to this fandom. :)

For me, all of them are working hard to attain their goals, working hard to establish their careers, and to become that someone they want to be. That's why I personally think that nobody's working hard less.. and nobody's getting it easy. Each of them has experienced their own piece of hardships, and it's something we don't have any right to judge 'cause we're not in their shoes. That's why I don't get why some Kpop fans are getting angry with JE. But then again, they get angry over the most trivial things. Gaah. :|
