(ew that's lame, You have to have a paid account to post pix :( ...oh well)
It's been a little over a month since my last post. Time is going by too fast here. :( I've been able to keep in contact with a few people better now since our internet is working from the apartment. Spiro and I took a trip to Marathonas this weekend for a night. It wasn't what we expected really. We were hoping there would be more to do and less kids I guess. The beach looked like Ocean City water too, so that kinda ruined the mood for swimming. We spent the night at a hotel for $35 and it wasn't too shabby. We had horrible sleep though and it was cloudy the next morning so we had breakfast and decided to drive to the beach we usually go to instead. Once we get there, Spiro realizes he forgot his trunks! haha Sooo now we're home and he's taking a nap.
I really like the laid back culture here. By that, I mean, between the hours of 3-6pm it is normal for people to take naps or go home from work/close their store and rest. To call someone's house during those hours is equivalent to calling someone after 11pm in the states. However, it is ok to call someone's house till even midnight, here. All the cafes and small gyro places stay open for so long. Spiro and I were at a "taverna" and they had a tv playing there too and Jay and Silent Bob: Strike Back came on and so we decided to stay a lil longer. Soon someone turned off the lights where we were sitting and we were about to get up, but some guy said in greek for us to stay there, and he came over and opened us another beer, and told them not to charge us. I think he worked there? It was very nice of him. If you go to a cafe, they pretty much expect you to stay there a few hours and talk or whatever. (some people make-out on the couches too :/ eehh..) And they give you the bill right away and they don't bother you anymore. Same at restaurants, but cafes are more easy going. I wouldn't mind working at a cafe here in the summer. Your friends could visit you during hours, you meet a lot of young people, and they have good drinks! I just wanna learn Greek a lot better. I have to come back here again. The driving situation, though,...hmmmm...I think I'd stick to the bus and eventually buy a SmartCar. Those things are sweeet.
