Midwinter Battle Royale

Even though it's technically barely the beginning of winter this holiday season always feels the the middle for me. Once the New Year begins then I'm always heading off into spring at full tilt. The good thing for me about this time of year now that the kids are gone is that I use it as a time to do spring cleaning before spring gets here. Our bedroom closet is my nemesis. No matter how many times I try to get it organized, it always ends up looking like it exploded after a couple of days. It's the last hideout for the clutter in my life. When we moved, I mercilessly got rid of everything that didn't have a place or purpose with only a few exceptions. Those exceptions tend to be clothes that I want to hang onto because they have something I like--a texture, a certain color. This is the year that even that tendency will not save them.

Rather than becoming one of those little old ladies who ends up in a house full of tchotchkes, I think I am probably going to end up being someone who lives in a room with the bare minimum of furniture. I am very much amused to find this out about myself because I would have totally pegged myself as a tchotchke lady. So while we are here exchanging gifts and enjoying all the holiday goodies, I'm also going to busy myself with donating about half of my closet and making the space I crave.
